The Fiery Arrows are ammunition for bows in Final Fantasy XII. They are weak on their own but make the bow-user deal fire damage, able to exploit favorable weather conditions and enemy weakness. Bows cannot be equipped without owning some kind of arrows. Owning the Fiery Arrows means the player can use an unlimited amount, and arrows do not need a license to be equipped alongside a bow.
Obtain[]
Original[]
The Fiery Arrows are not sold in shops, but sell for 350 gil. They are made in the bazaar set Arrows Alight. If the player then sells them, they cannot get another set of Fiery Arrows.
The set includes the Fiery Arrows alongside the Longbow, made by selling two Crooked Fangs and four Fire Stones. The set costs 3800 gil. Crooked Fangs are obtained from Redmaws in Henne Mines and the Stilshrine of Miriam, among other enemies, and Fire Stones are obtained from various enemies, among them the Hyenas of Giza.
Zodiac[]
In the Zodiac versions, the Fiery Arrows can be bought for 800 gil from the Baknamy merchant in the Necrohol of Nabudis. They are also found as treasure at Barheim Passage's East-West Bypass (90% chance to appear, 50% chance to hold an item, 50% chance the item is the Fiery Arrows without the Diamond Armlet equipped), Tchita Uplands' Uazcuff Hills (45% chance to appear, 30% chance to be an item, 50% chance the item is the Fiery Arrows without the Diamond Armlet), and Nabreus Deadlands' The Slumbermead (75% chance to appear, 60% chance the treasure is an item, 50% chance the item is the Fiery Arrows without the Diamond Armlet), as well as in Trial Mode Stage 19 with the Diamond Armlet equipped. They can also be stolen (55% base chance) from the Croakadile in the Trial Mode Stage 11.
They are still made in the bazaar in the "Arrows Alight" set, for the same items as before but the set is now cheaper at 2800 gil.
Use[]
The Fiery Arrows set adds a mere 1 point to the bow's power but they make the damage the bow deals fire-elemental, meaning it will do 20% more damage in windy weather (including all storms) and double damage to enemies weak to fire and triple damage to oiled enemies. The damage can also be amplified to 150% by coupling the Fiery Arrows with the Burning Bow weapon, which as affinity to fire.
The downside is that bows' accuracy is poor in windy weather, meaning the damage boost in windy weather is likely eroded with all the missed shots (the player can use guns with Wyrmfire Shot instead), and that the damage is diminished during rain, though the latter can be canceled out with an Agate Ring. Some enemies also resist fire damage, meaning the player could be better off with the preceding Parallel Arrows against these foes. However, against fire-weak and oiled enemies, Fiery Arrows remains a good choice of ammunition for a bow-user.
The arrows are only useful to procure in the Zodiac versions if the player is using an Archer, albeit the secret Seitengrat can be used without a license.
