Faz Hicks is a character in Final Fantasy VII Remake Trace of Two Pasts. He is a researcher from the Shinra Electric Power Company working under Hojo on the Cetra project in the Shinra Building. Part of the group that tested on Ifalna and Aerith Gainsborough, Faz was responsible for allowing the two to escape and ensuring their way out.
History[]
While Ifalna was under Hojo's care, Faz was often responsible for lifting Ifalna from the wheelchair to her bed due to Ifalna's pain from Hojo’s experiments. When Ifalna begged Faz for an injection to numb the pain, he was able to secretly find a painkiller in a small vial that he injected with a syringe.[1] At one point, he told Ifalna about the Sector 5 slums church; when he offered to take her there, she changed her mind on it, saying it was a horrible place.[2]
After a while, Faz agreed to help Ifalna escape, securing them a small home in the Sector 3 slums of Midgar to start a new life with them. The plan involved sneaking out of the lab under the cover of a monster breach in monster containment, followed by sneaking out into a cart. This would then take them to a truck with crates bound for a freight train headed to the Sector 4 Undercity Station, where a friend of his named Amber would wait for them. Faz had also prepared food in the crate,[3] and written a letter describing Midgar's layout and their instructions.[4]
When Ifalna and Aerith arrived at the Sector 4 Undercity Station and were told to hide in the container yard waiting for Faz, Ifalna instead ran off with Aerith, running in the opposite direction of the container yard.[5] Hoping they would return eventually, Faz continued paying rent on the Sector 3 slums house.[6] Faz sometimes came to the Sector 5 slums church to pray to God to find Aerith and Ifalna, but slowly lost faith after he could not find them.[2]
When Amber found Aerith at the Sector 4 Undercity Station many years later, she told Faz, who came to the Sector 5 slums as soon as he could. After Aerith ran from him at first, he caught up with her and took her to the church. He then offered to take Aerith back with him, calling her his "dear Ifalna". Aerith fled out of discomfort in response, until Elmyra Gainsborough whacked him with a broom and stopped him.[7] After a short scuffle, and a shot at Faz from an unknown shooter, Elmyra and Aerith successfully fled. Aerith never saw Faz again, but sometimes thought she did and froze up, until realizing it was someone else.[8]
Characteristics[]
Faz is a big man in frame and figure, with Aerith describing everything down to his eyes, nose, and mouth as "quite simply put, large". He also has thick arms.[1] He speaks with a deep baritone voice.[3]
Faz had developed feelings for Ifalna to the point of an unhealthy attachment. He kissed Ifalna's hand at their final meeting,[9] and when only Aerith was left, he called Ifalna his dear love, having clearly held onto the memory.[10] This appeared to make Ifalna uncomfortable, based on her decision to run away and her dodging the subject when Aerith asked after him later on their trip,[11] but she nonetheless described Faz to Aerith as a good person[3] and said her reason for not staying with him was because she had "burdened him too much" already.[12]
