Fastitocalon-F is an enemy from Final Fantasy VIII. It's a fiery red fish that often appears in groups of three. The "F" signifies "fake". When targeted, the enemy is known simply as the Fastitocalon; the name Fastitocalon-F is the name of its Triple Triad card to distinguish it from the larger version of Fastitocalon.
Fastitocalon-F, a smaller version of Fastitocalon, is concealed by sand at the beginning of the battle allowing only its fin to show. During this stage, it resists both physical and magical damage. After Fastitocalon-F is attacked in any way while its fin is below the ground, it may pop out into the air and is no longer reachable by Quake. Thunder remains useful. The Fastitocalon-F is the first significant source of AP in the beginning of the game.
Fastitocalon-F is a card in the Triple Triad minigame. It is a basic Level 1 Monster Card that is also part of the starter deck obtainable at the beginning of the game. Five cards become one Water Crystal with Quezacotl'sCard Mod, making hem worthwhile cards to collect if the player takes on Triple Triad early, as the Water Crystal can be used to teach Quistis a new Blue Magic spell and to refine into Water spells.
[view·edit·purge]Fastitocalon is another name for Aspidochelone, a legendary sea monster whose back resembled an island that would lure sailors to their doom. Fastitocalon is also mentioned in an old-English poem called The Whale as a name for the Devil.
