In the last part of Chapter 4 (World of Nil/The Void), the party must fight a boss to restore [[Castle Burtgang]]. When coming back from the boss, the party must talk to the ghost of the King of Burtgang sitting in the throne room twice to activate the cutscene that will convert [[Final Fantasy Dimensions weapons#Galantine|Galantine]] to Excalibur. If the party leaves the room without doing this, the castle's ghosts disappear and the party can never get Excalibur.

Excalibur has appeared in other [[Square Enix]] titles as a weapon, referencing the ''Final Fantasy'' version of the weapon. 

The weapon made its first cameo appearance in the first entry of the [[Mana series|''Mana'' series]], ''Adventures of Mana'' (known as ''[[Final Fantasy Adventure]]'' for its original release.) Known as XCalibr, it is Sumo's strongest weapon and obtained near the end of the final dungeon. The weapon would be renamed to the "Sword of Mana" in later remakes of the game. The Excalibur would appear in later ''Mana'' titles, such as ''Secret of Mana'', ''Trials of Mana'', and ''Children of Mana''.
