Eutrope is a non-playable character in Final Fantasy XIV. Her fighter alias is Wicked Thunder, one of competitors in the heavyweight tier of the Ascension Arcadia Championship. Eutrope is the sister of Neyuni and Yaana.

History[]

Before Dawntrail[]

Eutrope was born to Turali Hhetsarro parents who were in Yyasulani when the dome appeared and became trapped there. They worked as hunters. One day, her parents never returned from a hunting trip. Unlike many others who were also trapped in the dome, Eutrope's parents refused to use soul regulators, which is why Eutrope and her sisters never forgot them. After their parents died, Eutrope insisted that the sisters start using soul regulators, if only to spare themselves from a similar fate.[1] She had a different birth name but adopted an Alexandrian one instead.

Eutrope mastered the use of electrope and, by using it in conjunction with Levinsteed's soul, made a name for herself as "Wicked Thunder" in the Ascension Arcadia Championship, fighting in the highest division: heavyweight. She taught Yaana how to fight, and Yaana's efforts allowed her to enter the Arcadia Championship in the light heavyweight division as a rookie.[1]

Eutrope began to notice symptoms of psychonekrosis in her body and attempted to seek counsel from the immortalized. However, when she snuck into the President's office, she discovered that those who were immortalized were taken away to a secret facility where their regulators were removed, and they were kept in confinement until they died. Eutrope then disappeared to search for a cure for psychonekrosis, leaving Yaana and Neyuni alone.[2]

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail[]

Eutrope threatening the Warrior of Light.

After the Warrior of Light faced and defeated the current champion of the division, the Brute Bomber, Metem held a coronation ceremony for the new champion, which the Brute Bomber interrupted by storming the stage. He charged at the Warrior of Light, but before he could strike, he was knocked out by a bolt of lightning from Eutrope. Eutrope threatened to take the Warrior of Light's soul, which Metem interpreted as a challenge. Metem had no authority to permit such a duel, as Wicked Thunder's license had been revoked after her disappearance. Conveniently, the voice of the President of Ascension Arcadia suddenly echoed through the stadium, sanctioning the confrontation.[3]

The Warrior of Light defeated Eutrope, who retreated. Yaana and the Warrior of Light returned to the gym to talk with Neyuni, but Eutrope soon came in after them, surprised to see the Warrior of Light there. Eutrope had not come to fight; she came to talk to her sisters. Yaana demanded to know why Eutrope had left without saying anything. Eutrope was about to explain but first insisted that Yaana stop fighting in the Arcadion if she wanted to live as the excessive use of feral souls would lead to psychonekrosis, a terminal illness that causes a person's own soul to degrade.

Yaana did not believe this, arguing that she could still remember all those who were immortalized. Eutrope responded that the life of comfort for the immortalized was a lie. She revealed what she had discovered about the immortalized and explained that she had left to search for a cure for her psychonekrosis. She had found a way, but needed a new dense soul, like the Warrior of Light's. She swore that next time she would have it. Yaana argued it was wrong to take the Warrior of Light's soul, even if it could save her. Eutrope lashed out, claiming it was easy for Yaana to say that since she did not know what it felt like to have her soul eaten. Metem knocked on the door, and Eutrope fled.[2]

Eutrope later asked Neyuni to meet with her urgently. When the Warrior and Yaana returned from defeating Brute Abombinator, they found Neyuni gone and tracked her to east Yyasulani where Eutrope revealed herself and apologized for having used Neyuni to draw the Warrior into an ambush. She activated her feral soul, and though Yaana tried to reason with her, she refused to back down. Yaana, unwilling to let the Warrior come to harm, activated her own feral soul, and Wicked Thunder and Black Cat clashed. Weak due to psychonekrosis, Eutrope was defeated. Yaana told Eutrope that she found it strange she would take a life just save her own, having realized she wanted the Warrior's soul not for herself, but for the man she loves: Retsarra, the Howling Blade. Eutrope admitted it and added that she also wanted it to cure her friends in the heavyweight division, as all of them have psychonekrosis. Yet despite that, they continued to follow the President. Yaana was struck with surge of pain and dizziness as her use of feral soul had driven her over the edge and now she, too, had psychonekrosis. Despite knowing the risk, she had done so anyway.

Neyuni told everyone that she may have found the cure, different from the Warrior's soul. Eutrope was surprised, since she never found any mentions of such. Neyuni determined she only investigated Arcadion's records. With the Oblivion's help, Neyuni had checked Alexandrian military records, and determined that military knew about psychonekrosis and looked into a cure. A stimulant was eventually discovered, and if the formula could be found, they could cure everyone. Eutrope was humbled to hear this, realizing the error she nearly made. She turned to the Warrior, and accepting she may not deserve forgiveness, she apologized for challenging and attempting to kill them. The Warrior smiled, forgiving her. Eutrope collapsed due to her condition, and the Warrior, Yaana, and Neyuni took her to Yaana's gym to rest.

After the Warrior defeated Retsarra, Warrior and Yaana tried to convince him to join them against the President. He did not agree with it, until Yaana loudly told him that Eutrope had not left him; she left to search for the cure for him. Hearing this left Retsarra speechless. Understanding that the President was responsible for his and Eutrope's condition, as well as Hector's death, he agreed to join the Warrior. They returned to the gym, with Retsarra bringing Hector's cats to be looked after. Yaana took him to see Eutrope, only to find that both her and Neyuni were gone. The screen in the gym activated; it was the President addressing the Warrior, upset that the Warrior and Yaana had interfered with his script, and so as to coerce the Warrior into continuing in the heavyweight division, he had taken Eutrope and Neyuni. He would release them and also provide the Warrior the access to the soul repository, as well as the cure for psychonekrosis, if they continued the tournament without interfering with his script further.

Eutrope is a tan-skinned Hhetsarro with light-pink hair with light-blue hairtips. She carries a electrope cube that allows her to channel lightning energy.

In her Wicked Thunder form, where she channels the soul of a levinsteed, her body transforms to become more satyr-like, much like Ramuh appeared in Eden's Verse: Fulmination Eden's Verse: Fulmination, but also showing characteristics of Ixion, the equine thunder-based creature from various Final Fantasy titles that first appeared in Final Fantasy X. Her use of machina in this Ixion-like state also evokes its appearance from Final Fantasy X-2, where Ixion merged with machines. In the Savage mode of her fight, she fuses herself with electrope in desperation to defeat the Warrior of Light, unleashing another feral soul that makes her gigantic and sprouts two electrope tentacles and a giant arm out of her shoulder.

Personality[]

Eutrope cares for her sisters, as she insisted they wear soul regulators after the death of their parents. However, when she discovered she was suffering from psychonekrosis, she grew desperate to save herself, and did not show much care about others, specifically the Warrior of Light. Even Yaana pointed out how selfish it is to take one's soul to save herself.

Eutrope's true reason for wanting the Warrior's soul is to save her friends and especially Retsarra, the man she loves, showing that she has a kind and loving heart like her sisters. When Neyuni reveals there is another cure for psychonekrosis, she immediately becomes apologetic.
