Story[]

The Twelve, Eorzea's guardian deities, seek to fulfill their enigmatic aspirations, and for this they claim they must engage in battle with men. Continuing your efforts to uncover the truth, you and your comrades have turned your attention to the monument at the heart of the Omphalos, which contains an incomplete epigraph. The goddess Nophica promises you the key to deciphering it, but in exchange you must do battle with more gods, herself included. So it is that you prepare yourself for another grueling foray into their sanctum, there to grant the divinities their heart's desire...

Etymology[]

Euphrosyne is an ancient Greek goddess, who, along with her sisters Aglaia (or Aglaea) and Thalia, made up the Charities, or Graces. The origin and exact number of goddesses included in the group varies by tradition, but usually numbered three and were considered to be the offspring of Zeus and the sea nymph Eurynome. Together they embodied various positive aspects such as goodwill, charm, fertility, and beauty, and were believed to attend the other Olympians at times of celebration.

The area where Menphina is fought, Arete, is named after the ancient Greek concept of Arete (Aρετή), or "excellence", particularly in matters of virtuous behavior. As with many abstract concepts in ancient Greek mythology, the idea was sometimes personified as a minor goddess of the same name.
