The term lunar effect refers to the belief there being a correlation between specific stages of the Earth's lunar cycle and behavior in animals, including humans, that cannot simply be explained by variation in light levels. Claims of a lunar connection have appeared in many contexts, including that those with mental disorders would exhibit periods of increased violent or aggressive episodes during the full moon.
