Though the root "Jura" is mostly associated with the Jura mountain range in the French-Swiss border, in this case it's likely a specific call to the Jurassic period. The prefix of its recolor relative, Archeoaevis, meaning "ancient", appear to support this. Meanwhile, avis is Latin for "bird".
