Espers are powerful, primordial beings that live in the Esper realm in Final Fantasy Airborne Brigade. The players and their brigade are tasked with battling them to earn their respect and ask for their help in restoring light to the remaining guardian crystal. Espers are both similar and different to weapons and abilities; they're equipped the same way and can be optimized by the system (separately from weapons and abilities), and they can be evolved to boost limits and enhanced to become stronger, but there the similarities end.

The player can equip up to five summon stones. There is no "main" slot; every equipped esper gets charged when the player battles, and espers are used automatically when they're fully charged, unless the player unequip them.

Espers do not have attack and defense values. What they do have is a bravery value, and a charging gauge. The bravery value indicates their attack power when they're summoned and is independent of their own attack, while the charging gauge dictates how long they must be equipped before they can be summoned. Each normal attack will fill all equipped summon stones' charging gauge by one, while each all-out attack will fill them by three. When they are fully charged, the player will summon them with their next all-out attack.

Etymology[]

In fiction, an esper (stylized as ESPer) is an individual capable of telepathy and other similar paranormal abilities. The term was apparently coined in this sense by Alfred Bester in his 1950 short story "Oddy and Id" and is derived from the abbreviation ESP for extrasensory perception.
