Final Fantasy XII Ultima Deathblow

Eschaton

Magick that inflicts damage with pure energy.

Eschaton (完全アルテマ, Kanzen Arutema?, lit. Perfect Ultima), also known as Divine Ultima and Ultimate Demise, is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series. It is the special ability of the Ivalice summon Ultima, which deals massive Holy-elemental or non-elemental damage to all enemies.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy XII[]

Eschaton is the ultimate attack of the Esper Ultima, which inflicts massive Holy-elemental magic damage to all enemies.

In the original version it is used when both Ultima and the summoner are in critical HP. Eschaton has a power of 250, range of 12, CT of 35, and a target of Circle 8.

In the Zodiac versions, it can be used whenever the remaining time left on the summon is less than 10 seconds, making it much easier to use. It has a power of 250, range of 12, CT of 0 and target of Circle 10.

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings[]

Eschaton is the ultimate attack of Ultima, which deals Holy-elemental damage to a group of enemies in a straight line from her.

Final Fantasy XVI[]

In "The Rising Tide" DLC, after defeating Leviathan and receiving Ultima's gift, Clive gains Ultimate Demise, which acts as his version of the final boss's Ultima spell. It does incredible damage to the enemy and drags in any nearby enemies.

It has such a long cooldown that its damage can be outpaced by moves such as Gigaflare, and its will damage can be outpaced by Diamond Dust, as both have shorter cooldowns.

Final Fantasy Tactics[]

Simmering life light, be a tower of power! All-ultima!

Incantation

Divine Ultima (also called All-ultima) is one of Ultima's most powerful attacks in her second form, dealing massive non-elemental damage to several party members. It costs 50 MP to use, has a range of 5, and effect of 4, and a speed of 7.

Etymology[]

Eschaton means the day at the end of time following Armageddon when God will decree the fates of all individual humans according to the good and evil of their earthly lives. The word comes from the Ancient Greek ἔσχατον (éskhaton), neuter singular of ἔσχατος (éskhatos), meaning "last".

Ultima means "the last" in Latin and many Latin-based languages. The word is an inflection of ultimus which is the superlative of ulter, which means "that is beyond". In the Spanish versions of many Final Fantasy games, the spell Ultima's name is written as "Artema", a close transliteration of the Japanese katakana.
