Epiolnis, also known as Aepyornis, or Epiornis, is a recurring enemy in the series, mainly in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. It appears as a bird-like creature with forearms.

Final Fantasy VI[edit | edit source]
Aepyornis (previously translated as Beakor) makes its first appearance in Final Fantasy VI. It can Poison party members, but is a fairly weak enemy overall.
Final Fantasy VII[edit | edit source]
Epiolnis is an enemy from Final Fantasy VII. Its attacks and HP are very weak for the point in the game it is fought at, and it can be killed easily. It drops rare Wizard Bracelets, and is the only source of them once Mideel is destroyed.

The Epiornis and other creatures of the same genus sport strong kicks and bites, so it is good to keep distance away from it. Magic attacks will be the most effective way to achieve quick victory. If one does not want to use magic, a few Assault Twisters from behind will suffice.

Though its short range attacks are very powerful, Epiolnis has no long range moves, so fighting it at a distance is recommended. Its weak point is in its head.

Aepyornis is a genus of extinct, flightless bird more commonly known as an "elephant bird".
