Sword that boosts its wielder's magic.

Description

The Enhancer is a sword in Final Fantasy VI. Though the sword has medium stats, somewhat lower than many other weapons, the sword stands out for its +7 Magic stat bonus, the highest of any weapon (aside from two with an equally high +7 Magic). Enhancer can be wielded by Terra, Edgar, and Celes; the +7 Magic makes the weapon one of Terra and Celes's best possible weapons.

Enhancer is also a weapon thrown by the Amduscias, which deals heavy non-elemental damage and is a counter to Throw.

Obtained[]

The Enhancer can be bought in South Figaro, Nikeah, and Kohlingen for 10,000 gil in the World of Ruin. It can also be won in the Dragon's Neck Coliseum by betting the Crystal Sword, a much more common weapon. Crystal sword has slightly better physical damage, but lacks the bonuses of Enhancer.

Mechanics[]

The Enhancer uses the standard physical damage formula to determine its damage, providing a +135 Attack, and adding to the wielder's Strength. As with other weapons, it can be improved by the Gauntlet relic that boosts its damage by +50%. The Master's Scroll halves the damage dealt by each attack, but causes the weapon to attack four times. Genji Glove causes the damage dealt by the weapon to be reduced by 25%, but allows two weapons to be equipped, and thus, two hits dealt at once. Master's Scroll and Genji Glove can be combined to allow the player to use two weapons (including two Enhancers, if obtained) to hit eight times, ultimately doubling its damage and spreading it to all enemies.

Enhancer provides a passive +7 boost to Magic. Equipping two Enhancers (via Genji Glove) grants a +14 Magic stat overall.

Enhancer enables the Bushido and Runic commands (although Cyan cannot natively equip it).

Use[]

Enhancer is one of the best weapons Terra and Celes can equip due to the +7 Magic. Both Terra and Celes, due to their high natural Magic stats and their access to female-exclusive equipment, are primarily spellcasters who can equip swords. This means that, although Enhancer's physical damage is lower than that of other stronger weapons, Enhancer is still among the best they can equip if they will be primarily spellcasting (players can also build Terra and Celes toward physical damage, in which case other weapons are better choices).

The Enhancer can be used with the Genji Glove relic to grant a +14 Magic total. A second relic can then either improve Terra or Celes's spellcasting (Gold Hairpin, Celestriad, Earring, etc.) or be a defensive relic (Ribbon, Safety Bit, etc.). Later on, the Celestriad and Soul of Thamasa combo should be used by either Terra or Celes, making one of them potent spellcasters, but unable to equip a second weapon.

Enhancer is outclassed by the Ragnarok weapon and even more so by the Lightbringer. Both weapons have a +7 Magic stat, along with far better stats across the board, and an added ability. However, both weapons are rare (and in most cases, require the player to forfeit the Ragnarok magicite), meaning that in many cases, players may end up using Enhancer as the ultimate weapon for Terra or Celes. If they gain access to Ragnarok or Lightbringer, this weapon may be better given to a Terra or Celes using the Soul of Thamasa and Celestriad combo (and thus only has a single weapon).
