Emmerololth is a character from Final Fantasy XIV. She was an Ascian introduced in patch 2.3 "Defenders of Eorzea", getting a major but unseen role in the Forbidden Land, Eureka.
History[]
Before Final Fantasy XIV[]
Emmerololth was an ancient that was part of the Convocation of Fourteen of Amaurot, taking the title of "Emmerololth, the Mender". The seat of Emmerololth specialised in medicines and healing.
During the Final Days, Emmerololth alongside the rest of the Convocation, used creation magicks to give life to the the first deity concept, Zodiark, in order to stop the disaster. They did so by sacrificing half of the star's population to stop the Final Days, and another further half of the remaining population to restore life to the star. With new life being born, the Convocation planned on sacrificing newly emerged life to Zodiark that He might bring back their sacrificed brethren.
Wishing to avoid further sacrifices, a rival faction, led by Venat, summoned another deity, Hydaelyn, to keep Zodiark in check. During the battle between Zodiark and Hydaelyn, the star was sundered, split, into fourteen worlds: thirteen reflections and a Source, with all living beings on it split among them, with Emmerololth's soul was splintered into fourteen shards.
The remaining unsundered members of the Convocation formed the Ascians, a cult focused on bringing back their god Zodiark, and "raised" one of the shards of Emmerololth's soul with the memories of the ancient Emmerololth, becoming one of thirteen Ascian overlords that orchestrated Umbral Calamities in order to fuse the shards of the star into the Source.
Final Fantasy XIV[]
Emmerololth learned that the primal Eureka had been imprisoned in the Isle of Val by Galuf Baldesion and his companion. Emmerololth sought to use its power in an Ascian plot, but Galuf Baldesion and his compatriots conjured a powerful spell to cast the entire island into the Lifestream. There, they used their combined powers to destroy Emmerololth, scattering her essence within the aether of the aetherial sea, such that she would not be able to reform.
Despite this, Emmerololth was present in a meeting of Ascians that took place after the Isle of Val was sent into the Lifestream. It is unclear if this was a different shard of the ancient Emmerololth or an oversight.
Characteristics[]
In Amaurot's Convocation of Fourteen, the position of Emmerololth was specialized in medicines and healing.
Like the other Ascian overlords in the reunion scene, Emmerololth is represented with a lesser Ascian model. She wears a single black leather hooded coat with purple markings and adornments, and is wearing a black mask.
Behind the scenes[]
Emmerololth was one of the Ascians present at the reunion in patch 2.3 "Defenders of Eorzea", getting an actual line of dialogue confirming her existence. This conflicts with the revelation in Eureka, the Forbidden Land, that she was destroyed in the Isle of Val's disappearance, which takes place before the scene in question.
When the elemental level 60 Eureka quest was added, the note explaining Emmerololth's involvement erroneously referred to them as male. Following patch 4.56, the note was changed to refer to Emmerololth as female.
Etymology[]
"Emmerololth" refers to the Scion of Light "Emmerololth, Holy Queen" referred to in the profile of Famfrit from Final Fantasy XII.
