Fully restores HP and MP.
Description
The Elixir is a restoration item in Final Fantasy IX usable both in battle and on the field from the menu to fully replenish the target's HP and MP. When used on the undead, it will have the opposite effect. They are rare items not sold in shops (and selling for only 1 gil), mainly found as treasures or obtained as spoils from bosses. The Elixir is the best restorative item in Final Fantasy IX, as this game does not have Megalixirs. It is one of the few items to have a Tetra Master card.
Obtain[]
The player can buy an Elixir from Stiltzkin in Alexandria (after returning from the Outer Continent), Oeilvert, Bran Bal, and in Alexandria again (after visiting Bran Bal).
The player can find two Elixirs in Alexandria Castle at the start of the game when in control of Steiner. One is a possible reward for speaking to the queen, depending on how many nobles the player impressed during the sword fight; if the player impressed 50–79 nobles, Steiner will receive an Elixir when speaking to the queen on the balcony. However, the player is best aiming for the top prize of a Moonstone instead.
Steiner has another chance of getting an Elixir by finding all Knights of Pluto around the castle and then reporting to Breireicht in the left tower.
Vivi can uncover treasures in the Ice Cavern with his fire spell, one of them being an Elixir . An Elixir is found as a treasure in Cleyra's Trunk and obtained as a reward in Cleyra for the evacuation quest during the Battle of Cleyra (from Burmecian Refugee Learie).
Giving Moguta in Gizamaluke's Grotto a Kupo Nut after the events in Burmecia nets an Elixir.
There is a hidden Elixir in the entrance to Fossil Roo; the player can return here to nab it after battling Lani. There is another Elixir outside the weapon shop in Black Mage Village , found in the bottom of Iifa Tree , and received as a gift in Madain Sari (talk to the moogle outside the Eidolon Wall after defeating Soulcage).
Two Elixirs are found in Lindblum after the party returns from the Outer Continent. One is in the Lindblum Castle guest room and the other one is in the residence in Business District . One is found in Oeilvert (behind the stairs with the blue orb that can be interacted with), in Mount Gulug , on the deck of Hilda Garde III (climb the ladder to the hatch), Daguerreo (hidden on each side of the middle floor), Terra , Bran Bal (inn ), and Pandemonium's teleporter room (get the right teleporter in the room previous to the "teleporter room").
An Elixir can be stolen from Red Dragon, Yan, Gizamaluke, Ark, Taharka, Shell Dragon (A), Silver Dragon, Kraken's Left Tentacle, Deathguise, Necron, Tantarian, Quale, and Ozma.
The enemy the player can farm it from is Yans.
An Elixir can drop from Kraken (Crystal World), Lich (Crystal World), Hilgigars, Soulcage, Valia Pira, Silver Dragon, Nova Dragon, Maliris, Tiamat, Kraken, Lich, Deathguise, Yeti (Friendly), Quale, and Hades.
Mechanics[]
Elixirs are used during battle and on the field to fully restore an alive target to 100% health and MP. If the target is undead or Zombiefied, they will be defeated.
Use[]
Elixirs are useful restorative items that are best saved for dire situations, such as the toughest battles and bosses. However, when the player has a healer, healing spells may be preferable as the player is likely able to fully restore their party's HP with a group-cast Curaga.
An Elixir can be used in synthesis to make a Pearl Rouge.
Some versions of the game have a glitch involving Chemist and Auto-Potion. If a party member goes into negative health due to this, they can fix it with using an Elixir onto them.

#074 Location: Black Mage Village (Black mage no.234) Treno (Gambler Grecchio disc 3) Memoria Strong Phantom in Lost Memory, Rare Phantom in Time Warp Chest in Bohden Gate |
The Elixir card is found in a treasure chest in the locked Bohden Gate (can be revisited when the player can traverse the seas with the Blue Narciss), and can open a treasure chest containing an Elixir card at the top of the ladder that Steiner was unable to open due to the heavy load he was carrying). This area is entered from King Ed Plains east from the Chocobo's Forest.
Black mage no.234 also very rarely uses Elixir in their hand in the endgame. Gambler Grecchio plays it during disc 3 in Treno. Strong Phantom plays it in the Lost Memory area, and the Rare Phantom plays it in the Time Warp area of the final dungeon.
