Battle[]

The Elite Shock Trooper is deadlier version of the regular Shock Trooper, capable of not only moving around quickly, but can also climb on walls and ceilings. Much like the Shock Trooper, he can dodge continuous attacks in a row, such as melee attacks combos and Barret's rapid-fire shots.

The Elite Shock Trooper can rapid-fire energy blasts from his claws, which he'll do both on the ground and while latching on the walls. He employs the same abilities as the Shock Trooper: Physical damage Diving Kick, where he jumps into the air and descends with a flying kick; Physical damage Springboard, where he propels himself towards his opponent; and Physical damage Backspring Kick, a somersault attack that knocks opponents high into the air. He also uses Magic damage Pulse Shot, where he concentrates energy on his claw, similar to Barret's Focused Shot, and fires a long-range blast that can knock down characters.

Hard mode[]

On the hard difficulty, the Elite Shock Trooper will use its abilities more often, and will be overall more aggressive.

Strategy[]

Much like the vast majority of human-type enemies, the Shock Trooper is weak against Fire Fire. Much like the Shock Trooper, he has a surprisingly high magic defense, which combined with his ability to dodge attacks makes the Elite Shock Trooper quite resilient. His ability to climb walls also makes him difficult to reach, although this can be remedied by ranged attacks, such as Barret's, as well as magic.

The Elite Shock Trooper focuses more on ranged attacks than melee, meaning he is actually less oppressive than Shock Trooper. Pulse Shot also has a significant startup, which gives the player enough time to interrupt him using magic.

Etymology[]

Shock troops are formations created to lead an attack. "Shock troop" is a calque, a loose translation of the German word Stoßtrupp. Military units which contain assault troops are typically organized for mobility with the intention that they will penetrate through enemy defences and attack into the enemy's vulnerable rear areas.
