Oh, shut up and help me remodel the Elena (VII Rebirth boss) page!
A new operative with the Turks unit of Shinra's General Affairs Division. After distinguishing herself in the military academy, she was brought into the fold as the unit's newest member. What she lacks in practical experience, she makes up for with enthusiasm.
Enemy Intel
Elena is a boss in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth fought in Chapter 3, "Deeper into Darkness" in the Mythril Mines, Chapter 12, "A Golden Key" in the Gold Saucer, and Chapter 13, "Where Angels Fear to Tread" in the Star Life Room. During the first two battles, she is accompanied by Rude, and in the third one, she is accompanied by Tseng.

Chapter 3[]
This battle is fought with Cloud, Tifa and Aerith.
Elena fights with both close and long range attacks. She is nimble and acrobatic with her strikes, and while generally dealing less damage than Rude, she compensates with her flexibility and versatility. She can perform a high flying kick that knocks characters down. If her targets are far away, she'll use Cover Fire, launching a barrage of bullets from her semi-automatic handgun.
To break the gap between her opponents, Elena can lob a Stun Grenade, which explodes after a few seconds, dealing damage and temporarily incapacitating her target. She may also use Backflip Barrage, where she performs an evasive jump away from her opponents while throwing four stun grenades.
Occasionally, Elena will use Formation Alpha, where she jumps behind the arena on a large rock formation, becoming untargetable, and will repeatedly throw stunning grenades on the battlefield, while Rude stays on ground level. In addition, Elena can use a move called Elena Knuckle, where she begins winding up, and after a few seconds, she'll perform a dashing haymaker that knocks her opponent down.
After her or Rude are staggered the first time, a small cutscene will play, where Rude will use his Atlas Stance to create an energy shield and protect Elena, who will be right behind him, untargetable. During this, she'll charge-up her special attack: Petit Powerhouse. If Elena completes the charge, which takes roughly 15 seconds, she will perform a combo attack on each party member; this ability cannot be blocked. They might occasionally use this attack again for the remainder of the fight.
Following this, if Rude is below 40% health, Elena might use Raid Stance, where she'll become more aggressive with her pistol firing, while Rude stands in the middle of the arena and begin charging Spirit Surge, which also takes 15 seconds. If he completes it, he'll unleash an explosive punch on the ground that deals devastating damage to all party members. This attack cannot be blocked. They might occasionally use this attack again for the remainder of the fight.
Elena is weak against
Lightning.
Strategy[]
The fight itself is not very challenging since both Rude and Elena specially can be easily pressured.
First Strike Materia in particular is useful on Cloud or Tifa as it allows him to start the encounter with Focused Thrust / Focused Strike on Elena, which can quickly lead to her being staggered.
Ideally, Elena should be taken down first since she has less HP than Rude, and doesn't employ very dangerous attacks, although her stun grenade can be a nuisance and result in the player taking damage from Rude's more potent attacks. Her Cover Fire can be particularly problematic since it flinches targets, although it can be blocked or avoided altogether by running sideways.
The Elena Knuckle move, while strong, can be used against her: if the player baits the attack near the ledge of the arena and avoid the attack, Elena will actually fall off the battlefield and become temporarily out of combat. She will return after some seconds, panting from climbing back.
Aerith should prioritize dropping her Arcane Ward, and should be equipped with
Wind Materia and
Lightning Materia to exploit Rude and Elena's elemental weaknesses, respectively. This is especially useful when Rude is charging Spirit Surge, or when Elena is charging Petit Powerhouse, as it will break his Atlas Stance and allow interrupting her attack.
Hard Mode[]
If well prepared, this battle is even easier on the hard difficulty. Any kind of high end spells can potentially pressure the bosses, even something like Bioga.
Cloud can be built as the frontline with
HP Up Materia,
Steadfast Block Materia and
Precision Defense Focus Materia, while Tifa and Aerith can focus on spellcasting. He can also equip the
Elemental Materia linked with
Lightning and Wind Materia allows to exploit both bosses' elemental weaknesses simultaneously.
Having either Aerith or Tifa equipped with
Petrify Materia or
Comet Materia linked with
Synergy Materia is highly effective thanks to the large the area-of-effect from these spells. It's also recommended to have the
Lightning Materia and
Wind Materia linked with
Magic Focus Materia.
Aerith can be equipped with
ATB Boost Materia,
First Strike Materia and the Choco King's Cape to quickly cast all her wards in succession to bombard the bosses with spells. ATB Ward should be cast first, followed by Radiant Ward, to provide invincibility while casting magic, and then finally Arcane Ward. With this setup ready, as well having any of the characters equipped with
ATB Assist Materia (Tifa being the prime candidate) can easily keep the party's ATB filled at a constant rate.
When Elena begins charging Petite Powerhouse while Rude is protecting her with Atlas Stance, it's recommended to immediately cast Aeroga on him while inside Arcane Ward to pressure and cancel the barrier. The same applies when Rude is readying his Spirit Surge.
Defeating Rude and Elena on Hard Mode for the first time grants Aerith's Telluric Scriptures Vol. VIII.

Behind the scenes[]
In the battle in the Mythril Mines, evading Elena when she rushes at the player may send her rolling off the side of the battlefield; she then quickly climbs back up to rejoin the fray. This is an allusion to Final Fantasy VII where evading Elena's punch in a scene at Icicle Inn sends her rolling down the slope.
If inflicted with
Sleep, Elena will mutter "good job boss" while asleep (presumably referring to Tseng), and when awoken quickly asks "What did I miss?"
