Elde is a non-playable character from Final Fantasy XIV. She is the main character during the Leatherworker questline in the Heavensward expansion.

History[]

Elde makes a request to the Fen-Yll Fineries of Gridania requesting a sample of their best work. After receiving the samples, Elde makes a large-scale request, but following instructions from guildmaster Geva Storke, the Warrior of Light refuses the request as it would harm life in the Black Shroud. Elde then asks the Warrior of Light to assist her.[1]

Elde seeks to sell high quality products to any citizen and not give preference only to the High Houses as other merchants do. One of the customers, Ortefauchel, got interested in Elde's shop after he went to buy a gift for his wife and saw the quality of the products made by a Gradanian leatherworker. Another customer who became interested in a product from the workshop was Aubrenard, a famous bard who, if he wore the boots bought from Elde, would attract his admirers as customers.[2]

Elde's success has attracted a lot of attention to her workshop, this includes the anger of Gerhardt, a merchant who sells quality products only to nobles. Gerhardt has bought up all the wyvern skin stock in Ishgard, preventing Elde from being able to produce more wyvernskin workboots. To get around the situation, Elde asks the Warrior of Light to make a pair of dhalmelskin leggings for him to use as the basis for his next products. Once they are ready, Elde asks him to take a sample to Aubrenard to publicize the new product.[3]

Elde made another offering to the Mercantile Guild and asked for Elaisse's help in getting contacts with a noble. Elaisse cannot help, but recommends asking Gerhardt for advice. Gerhardt reveals that he is an avid follower of Aubrenard, and felt compelled to try on the boots when he heard that the bard was wearing them. After witnessing the quality of the boots, Gerhardt admitted defeat. Gerhardt agreed to help on the condition that Aubrenard create an original ode inspired by him. Along with payment for previous work, Elde made an anonymous donation to the needy of Brume. In return, she asked Aubrenard to compose the ode. Once done, Gerhardt apologizes to Elde saying that he will support her store and delivered a letter of introduction.[4]

Ortefauchel revealed that he is a Temple Knight and that he was in charge of armor supply for the Temple Knights. Ortefauchel suggested that they wear leather armor. However this opposed the tradition of wearing chainmail. Elde notices that the Wood Wailers and the Gods' Quiver of Gridania wear leather armor, and sends a letter to Geva asking for advice. Geva replies and mentions Ciceroix Pondefout, the leatherworker from the Holy See who visited Gridania years ago and that it was he who created the leather-hardening technique used in Gridania nowadays. Elde says that Ciceroix was her grandfather who once tried to sell leather armor to the order, but failed and left for Gridania. Inspired to complete what her grandfather once attempted Elde asks the Warrior of Light to fashion armor using an old design by Ciceroix. Ser Handeloup himself comes to evaluate the leather armor. After watching Ser Ortefauchel dodge a beast's attack and survive one savage blow, he gladly vows to buy more of the same for the Temple Knights. Elde offers her heartfelt thanks to Warrior of Light, and promises that she will continue expanding her business.[5]
