Edda is a character in Final Fantasy XVI. She is a pregnant teenaged widow Clive Rosfield finds sheltering in a village on Ash after everyone in her village turned Akashic.
History[]
Clive and Gav discovered a heavily pregnant Edda hiding in her house in Eistla, frightened of going out as everyone else in the village, including her husband, had turned to Akashic, mindless violent monsters and shades of their former selves. Unable to understand what was happening, Edda was relieved to find normal people other than herself. Clive left Gav to look after her while he and Torgal kept pursuing Barnabas Tharmr, the king of Waloed and the one wanting to turn everyone in the realm into Akashic. Clive later theorized that Edda was carrying a Bearer, whose influence protected Edda from turning as well. They sent Gav to take Edda back to the Cursebreakers' hideaway, while Clive and Joshua would continue onward to Stonhyrr.
Gav brought Edda to the hideaway where she stayed with the local physicker, Tarja. Gav had grown fond of Edda and tasked Clive with finding a silver chocobo feather to make a good luck charm for the baby as was tradition in Gav's homeland of Northern Territories. After Clive returned with the rare spoils, Gav rejoiced of "becoming a father" with Clive reminding that it would be up to Edda to decide. After Clive, Joshua, and Dion Lesage departed to Origin, Edda gave birth in the medicine room of the hideaway, delivering a healthy baby much to Gav and other Cursebreakers' elation.

Behind the scenes[]
Edda may be named after Edda from Final Fantasy XIV, another game developed by Creative Business Unit III. Her name may also be related to the Poetic Edda, an untitled collection of Old Norse anonymous narrative poems, seeing that Ash and Waloed both have some Norse mythology influences.
Edda is a second pregnant teenager in the Final Fantasy series to give birth in their game's ending, after Katarin from Final Fantasy VI.
Whether Edda's baby was a Bearer as Clive theorized is unknown, but she gives birth as Clive erases magic from from the world, meaning the baby would presumably be able to live without being prejudiced against regardless. The baby is thus a symbol of Cidolfus Telamon and the Cursebreakers' mission succeeding: make a world where Bearers and Dominants can live and die on their own terms.
