Shapes ki energy into a shower of blades, which rains down upon all enemies.

Description

Eclipse, also known as Stunner,[1][2] is Cyan's level 34 Bushido technique in Final Fantasy VI. It requires six charges, and hits all enemies with a powerful magic attack, as well as having a chance to inflict stop on all enemies.

Obtained[]

Cyan learns Eclipse at level 34, or when defeating Wrexsoul.

Gogo can also use any Bushido techniques that Cyan has learned by equipping Bushido in Gogo's ability menu. This allows Gogo to use Eclipse.

Mechanics[]

As a magic damage ability with a spell power of 97, Eclipse deals damage with the following formula:

where "Level" refers to the user's level, and Magic refers to the user's Magic stat.

Eclipse's damage is non-elemental, meaning its damage is the same regardless of the enemy's elemental affinity.

Eclipse has a chance to inflict stop on enemies, with a hit rate of 140.

Use[]

Eclipse can deal heavy damage to all targets, with a chance to inflict stop, a devastating status that can remove the threat an enemy poses at the time. The main drawback to the ability is that it takes six ATB charges to use. As such, it is often better to use other techniques that require less time to charge. Additionally, Cyan is less focused on magic damage than physical damage, meaning he is not typically built toward using Eclipse.

In comparison to other techniques, Flurry, which requires only four charges, is often the better choice. As well as relying on Cyan's physical damage, Flurry can also be useful against single targets, where Eclipse is strictly useful against groups of enemies. Though Eclipse can be used against enemies with high Defense, Tempest ignores Defense anyway and only requires one more ATB charge, and as such, is more worthwhile.

Because most of Cyan's damage is physical, players should focus on boosting his Strength stat by leveling him up with magicite equipped to boost his Strength stat. As a consequence, Eclipse will mostly fall off in damage.

Due to Gogo's naturally higher Magic stat, Gogo benefits more from Eclipse than from other Bushido techniques, and Eclipse is a great ability for Gogo to use. However, Bushido benefits Gogo less than other skillsets, and thus, Gogo is less likely to use it.
