Echidna
Echidna is a boss in the Dawn of Souls and many succeeding versions of the original Final Fantasy, bar the Android version or Pixel Remaster. She is found in the southeastern room on the bottom floor of the Earthgift Shrine along with three other bosses. She usually uses one-hit KO attacks.

Echidna's location.
Echidna uses the Earthquake spell nearly every turn. As it is considered an Earth-elemental attack and not a Death-elemental attack, Protect Rings will not provide resistance to it. Instead, equipment or spells that grant Earth resistance are recommended, such Ribbon or casting NulDeath/NulAll. Echidna resists all magic, so physical strikes enhanced by Haste and Temper is the way to defeat her.
Echidna will rarely attack with Flare, dealing upwards of 250 damage on all characters.
Echidna resists status-elemental attacks, but her modest Magic-Defense means having a character use the non-elemental spell Sleepra can actually reliably inflict the Sleep ailment.
Etymology[]
Echidna was called the "Mother of All Monsters". Echidna was described by Hesiod as a female monster spawned in a cave, who mothered with her mate Typhon. Her face and torso is that of a beautiful woman, sometimes depicted as winged, but always with the body of a serpent. She is also sometimes described as having two serpent's tails. She was said to be the mother of such famous Greek monsters like Cerberus and the Chimera.
