Earring that boosts the strength of the wearer's magic. Effect increases when worn in pairs.
Description
Earring, also known as Earrings,[1][2] is a relic in Final Fantasy VI. It increases the magic damage dealt by the user by 25%, making it a useful boost for spellcasters.
Obtained[]
Earrings can be found in Phantom Train, South Figaro and Narshe, purchased in Albrook, Narshe, Tzen, Jidoor and Thamasa for 5000 gil, and stolen from Brainpan and Ahriman.
Mechanics[]
Earring increases the wearer's magic damage or healing by 25%. Unlike Gigas Glove, the effects from Earring stack, meaning two can be equipped for a 50% damage boost.
Use[]
Earring is a basic damage- or heal-boosting relic for spellcasters. Party members who often use magic spells for damage or healing may greatly benefit from equipping one or two to boost their turn- and MP-efficiency. These are typically Terra, Celes, Relm, Strago, and Gogo; interestingly, it also benefits Sabin due to his Blitz command mostly including magic damage, as well as Mog for his Dance command, while some of Edgar's Tools abilities and Cyan's Bushido ability are also magic-based.
Gigas Glove serves as the equivalent of Earring but for physical damage, while Hero's Ring provides a 25% boost to all types of damage, making it a better overall relic. Hero's Ring is often better for party members such as Terra, Celes, and Sabin whose damage comes from both physical and magic damage.
The player can easily equip a party member with two Earrings for a 50% damage boost. However, as spellcasters (particularly Relm) often struggle with defense already, and may be needed to cure other party members from negative status effects, it is often better to give them a defensive relic. Another good pair with Earring is a relic that cuts MP costs, such as Gold Hairpin.
Later in the game, as spells improve and as considerably more valuable relics, such as Celestriad and Soul of Thamasa, become available, Earring becomes less useful.
