EX Abilities tutorial.

An EX Ability or simply EX, is an ability type from Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, serving as the first-tier Limit Break system.

Overview

EX Abilities grant access to a powerful, recallable exclusive ability for each character. Initially, as with other weapons, equipping a weapon with an EX ability will make it available for use. By upgrading the weapon through Limit Break, the EX Ability will be upgraded with additional passives; and once the weapon is fully upgraded, the EX ability will become an equippable skill. As the character attacks or takes damage without being KO'd, an annular EX gauge will fill. When full, the button for the EX Ability will become active and the ring will pulse. A tone will also sound, indicating that the ability is ready for use.

EX Abilities generally provide for greatly increased damage, healing, and/or support according to each character's role in battle, but can also significantly alter the behavior and area of effect of their standard attacks and command abilities. For example, a character who is a summoner in their original title will have called their eidolon for support, providing access to powered-up HP and BRV attacks while the eidolon is present.

Acquisition

EX Abilities are given to every character, and are thus added with every new character released. The initial wave was released alongside Chapter 11 and level cap awakening to Level 60, and featured Cloud and Shantotto's EX weapons. Character events from Royal Hope forward carry an EX weapon for one of the three boosted characters. Lost Chapters from Princess of Alexandria forward offer EX weapons for the featured character in their release draws. EX weapons can be evolved beyond maximum level to become even stronger with new passives via Realization. To promote this feature, release draws starting with Garland's event offer two featured EX weapons for boosted characters. Following the introduction of Burst Mode and LD abilities, the odds of receiving a weapon with an EX ability were sharply increased. Furthermore, EX Abilities are readily available for all featured characters in active draws and can be bought using 10 EX Power Tokens apiece.
