The Shrouded Land of Dynamis (デュナミス, Dyunamisu?) is an important plot point and location in Final Fantasy XI. It is a parallel dimension to Vana'diel and dream world, created by Diabolos to save the Enlightened Races from Promathia. Dynamis can be accessed in the Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, and Rhapsodies of Vana'diel expansion packs. There are three variants of Dynamis content: The original Dynamis, Dreamworld Dynamis, and Dynamis Divergence. Each have connections with a set of equipment called the Relic Equipment.
History[]
Dynamis was created by Diabolos in order to save the enlightened races from the destruction that Promathia was destined to bring. However, this realm is ruled by darkness, which resulted in the forces of evil winning decisive battles in this dimension. The Shadow Lord was victorious in the crystal war, the evil fragments of Diabolos command the Tavnazian Safehold, and Volto Oscuro was able to conquer the four middle land nations. After the adventurer had begun fighting these evil forces in Vana'diel, they gain access to Dynamis.
Gameplay[]
There are three different variants of Dynamis content. The original Dynamis, Dreamworld Dynamis, and Dynamis Divergence. Each have slightly different entry requirements.
Dynamis[]
There are six areas ruled by the Dynamis Lord in Rise of the Zilart. Some of these areas must be unlocked using one key item or a combination of key items from the other Dynamis zones. It is required to attain nation rank 6 by defeating the Shadow Lord to begin entering the four starter zones of Dynamis, and the table below illustrates the progression through the different zones.
To gain access to Dynamis, players must complete five preliminary steps:
- Be above level 65.
- Have at least Rank 6 in your home nation.
- Zone into Xarcabard and watch the Dynamis Introduction cutscene.
- Obtain the two entry key items, Vial of Shrouded Sand and Prismatic Hourglass (See instructions bellow).
- To enter a Dynamis zone, interact with its associated Trial Marker.
The Vial of Shrouded Sand is obtained by examining the trail markers at any of these locations:
- Bastok Mines (K-8)
- Southern San d'Oria (L-6)
- Windurst Walls (C-12)
- Ru'Lude Gardens (I-9)
The Prismatic Hourglass is obtained by examining the trail markers at any of these locations:
- Beadeaux (E-7)
- Castle Oztroja (F-8)
- Davoi (J-7)
In each of the following zones, there is a zone boss which rewards the primary key item. This boss can be spawned with the drops from other notorious monsters within the zone. If players are able to defeat the zone boss as well as all of the other notorious monsters within the zone, they can use the drops to spawn the zone mega boss. The mega bosses in each zone will be a stronger variant of the zone boss with the prefix "arch" in it's name.
Dynamis zones reward the base relic weapons and armor, as well as the currencies required to upgrade them: ordelle bronzepieces, byne bills, and tukuku shells. Dynamis also rewards attestations and fragments, which are two types of items involved in building both, relic weapons and aeonic weapons.
Dreamworld Dynamis[]
This variant of Dynamis consists of four zones ruled by Diabolos. Fragments of Diabolos rebelled against the avatar and must be fought in Dynamis - Tavnazia. In order to get to Dynamis - Tavnazia, the zone bosses in each of the stage 1 zones must be defeated.
To gain access to Dreamworld Dynamis, players must complete three preliminary steps:
- Complete the Chains of Promathia mission, "Darkness Named".
- Obtain the two entry key items, Vial of Shrouded Sand and Prismatic Hourglass (See instructions above).
- To enter a Dreamworld Dynamis zone, interact with its associated Hieroglyphic.
Dreamworld Dynamis is much like the original Dynamis. However, the zone bosses have several special mechanics. All of the zone bosses can have abilities or attributes weakened if the player collects all of the prerequisite drops from other notorious monsters in the zone. Cirrate Christelle will lose three of her most powerful abilities as well as several other attributes when drops from other monsters in Dynamis - Valkurm are used on her. This same mechanic shows up in each of the stage 1 zone bosses.
While Dreamworld Dynamis does not reward anything relevant beyond the original Dynamis zones, it does reward far more currency for building relic equipment. There is also an option to enter into Dreamworld Dynamis with sub-jobs restricted. Doing this results in a higher chance of a monster dropping valuable currencies. Players can also clear the zone boss in Dynamis - Tavnazia to obtain the key item that is required to enter Dynamis Divergence, the third variant of Dynamis.
Dynamis Divergence[]
Dynamis Divergence consists of the four stage 1 zones in the original dynamis, however, this variant is ruled by the disjointed servants of the Cloud of Darkness. This variant differs from the original Dynamis in being a much higher content level, and starting in a different point of the zone.
To gain access to Dynamis Divergence, players must complete five preliminary steps:
- Be above level 95.
- Complete the Rhapsodies of Vana'diel mission, "A Rhapsody for the Ages".
- Complete Dreamworld Dynamis and obtain the key item, Dynamis - Tavnazia silver.
- Purchase the permanent Key Item Empty Hourglass from the goblin Aurix via the "???" point in Ru'Lude Gardens (G-8).
- To enter a Dynamis Divergence zone, interact with it's associated Enigmatic Footprint.
Dynamis Divergence is the most difficult of the three variants. To get all the Dynamis Divergence rewards, all three bosses must be fought for each of the four zones.
Dynamis Divergence allows players to augment their ultimate weapons as well as further upgrade their reforged relic armor. The content also rewards powerful weapons called 'divergence weapons'.
Behind the scenes[]
The idea of Dynamis was reused in Final Fantasy XIV where it is a second type of energy that permeates the world along with aether. Dynamis accounts for a majority of the known energy, being more abundant than even aether. However, due to its weakened interactions with tangible matter, its effects are comparatively mild.

Etymology[]
Dynamis or dunamis comes from the Ancient Greek word dúnamis (δύναμις) which means "potentiality", a principle in philosophy.
