Cast two spells back-to-back.

Description

Dualcast is a Red Mage command ability in Final Fantasy V. It allows two spells of most skillsets to be cast in one turn, as long as the other magic skillset is also equipped. By default, it includes Red Magic level 3 spells (meaning White Magic and Black Magic spells up to level 3), but equipping the full White Magic, full Black Magic, Time Magic, or Summon skillsets allow them also to be cast twice at once. Dualcast is not compatible with Blue Magic or Dark Arts.

Equipping Dualcast will give the character the Magic +8 modifier assuming they do not have a higher modifier equipped. Furthermore, with this ability equipped, the Red Magic ability becomes redundant since Dualcast grants access to the Red Mage's skillset.

Dualcast is affected by the "Mix and X-Magic glitch".

Obtained[]

Dualcast can be learned by a Red Mage upon level 4 (when the job is mastered), but is not innate to them. It is extremely expensive to learn, costing 999 AP (a total of 1159 AP to master the whole job). It is one of two abilities that costs 999 ABP to learn, the other being Mimic.

Use[]

Once learned, Dualcast is an especially powerful ability that makes mages very turn-efficient. Being able to cast two spells at once not only allows mages to deal more powerful attacks against enemies, but can also allow them to better respond to enemies with defensive abilities.

The only drawback to Dualcast is that it takes up an ability slot of its own, limiting the spells that can be cast. To cast, for example, one Time Magic spell and one Summon, the character must be in the Mime job, and sacrifice Attack and Items commands to do so. This is ultimately a worthwhile trade-off in most instances late-game.

When used with Quick (requiring Time Magic to be equipped), four spells can be cast in one turn.
