Lightning battles the Clockwork Dreadnaught alongside some adventurers.

Clockwork Dreadnaught is an enemy that first appears in The Binding Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4 The Binding Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4. The boss encounter sees the party face off against waves of weaker enemies instead of a singular boss, with the three Dreadnaughts that appear being the strongest enemies fought in the encounter. The Dreadnaughts will use Bot Retrieval to eat weaker enemies and grant themselves a stacking damage up buff, necessitating the party defeat the other enemies quickly before the Dreadnaughts take the field.

A Clockwork Dreadnaught also appears as a boss during Lightning Strikes - Dread on Arrival Lightning Strikes - Dread on Arrival as part of the Lightning Strikes crossover event with Final Fantasy XIII. Lightning will assist players in bringing down the Dreadnaught, which uses abilities based on its Final Fantasy XIII appearance instead of its Binding Coil abilities.

Beyond the Clockwork Dreadnaught, dreadnaughts are also a recurring enemy family. They are Allagan constructs typically only found in duties that occur within ruins of the empire. The Dreadnaught was also available as a mount reward for season 20 of The Feast The Feast.

FFRK Dreadnought FFXIII

Two Dreadnoughts appear as bosses in separate battle tiers of The Vile Peaks 1, and in some Final Fantasy XIII events. A Dreadnought is also fought as a boss in the Ultima Nightmare Dungeon. The Dreadnought, across all its appearances, is able to use Wrecking Ball and Pulverize to deal physical damage to one or more targets, and is also able to use Steam Clean to remove its status debuffs. The Nightmare Dungeon Dreadnought is also able to use Incinerate, dealing fire-elemental damage to the party.

Etymology[]

Dreadnoughts were a type of battleship popular in the first half of the 20th century before the advent of the aircraft carrier made them obsolete. They were gigantic heavily armored ships noted for an "all-big-gun" design that allowed for great firing range while being well-protected. The term "dreadnought" comes from the first major ship of this design, the 1906 HMS Dreadnought. The word means "fear nothing".
