Battle[]

XIII dreadnought

Dreadnought in battle.

The Dreadnought is fought twice in quick succession, and whatever last paradigm was used in the first battle, will be selected for the second fight. The battle scores for both fights will be combined.

The first fight has it use a basic attack and a crushing attack, both of which can hit the entire party. It will use Steam Clean, which will remove the most recently applied debuff after a long charging period. It can also use Wrecking Ball, which can KO anyone around half HP.

The second fight replaces its two basic attacks with a swipe that hits twice. Like Wrecking Ball, it's fire-based. The Dreadnought has more HP, so at least two Staggers may be needed to bring it down.

Strategy[]

A good strategy is to have Vanille debuff the Dreadnought, while Sazh buffs the team (with Bravery and Faith, depending on the character) and Lightning goes in with Commando. Once the team is fully buffed and the enemy fully debuffed, they can switch to Tri-disaster (three Ravagers) and keep pressing the attack until the Dreadnought is staggered. Once done, they can switch to Relentless Assault (a Commando and two Ravagers) to defeat it, as Lightning will deal more damage. Steam Clean can also be interrupted by staggering it.

In the second battle, the same strategy will still work. However, due to stronger attacks, a Medic or potions may be needed.

Etymology[]

Dreadnoughts were a type of battleship popular in the first half of the 20th century before the advent of the aircraft carrier made them obsolete. They were gigantic heavily armored ships noted for an "all-big-gun" design that allowed for great firing range while being well-protected. The term "dreadnought" comes from the first major ship of this design, the 1906 HMS Dreadnought. The word means "fear nothing".
