Drakenvale, also known as the Valley of Dragons, is a location in Final Fantasy V in both Galuf's world and the merged world. It is a valley atop a mountain that is the only place where the dragon grass grows in Galuf's world, and used to be a habitat for wind drakes in the past.

History[]

Drakenvale was originally a habitat for wind drakes, due to the dragon grass that grows there. However, at some point the dragon grass a demon named the Dragon Pod overtook the dragon grass and made it hostile,[1] making the wind drakes in Galuf's world nearly extinct. Residents in the nearby village of Quelb knew it as a dangerous place overrun with monsters, and no one who had visited had returned.[2]

Bartz Klauser's party traveled through Quelb to find dragon grass to heal the Castle of Bal's sick wind drake. Along the way they met Golem, who initially made hit-and-run attacks against the party, before they found it battling monsters; after helping it, it joined them as a summon. After reaching the center of Drakenvale, the party found dragon grass, but upon attempting to retrieve it, were attacked by the Dragon Pod. They defeated it and took the grass back to Bal.

Geography[]

Drakenvalle is located on a large mountain, surrounded by forest. It is found past a valley where Quelb is located, with the gate in Quelb blocking the path north from the Castle of Bal to Drakenvale. In the merged world, the mountains of Drakenvale have a different appearance.

Drakenvale resembles the North Mountain: it comprises a path over plateaus, bridges, and through caves in order to reach the center of the valley, and is similarly fertile land on a mountaintop high above ground. It differs from the North Mountain in lacking the purple poisonous plants, as dragon grass only grows at the valley's center.
