The Drake is the largest species of monster in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift. Dragons of various forms and colors, they have very high HP and Attack scores, but low Weapon Defense.

Drakes have a variety of abilities in their two skillsets that harness the powers of the three basic black mage elements: Fire, Ice, and Lightning. The Breath skillset is made up of mainly damage-dealing moves, while Wyrmcraft focuses on buffing and debuffing abilities.

Etymology[]

Drake is another word for dragon. A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, which is featured in the myths of many cultures.

Jormungand is one of the species. The name hails from Norse mythology, in which Midgardsormr (Old Norse: Miðgarðsormr; also known as the World Serpent or Jörmungandr) was the middle child of Loki and a giantess named Angrboda. Odin threw it into the ocean that encircles Midgard and it eventually grew large enough to reach around the entire world and bite its own tail. It had been foreseen that on the day of Ragnarök it would battle with its arch-nemesis: Thor, the god of thunder. The sky would darken from the poison mist emitted by Midgardsormr, and the battle would end in the death of both. Thor would first kill Midgardsormr and then stagger nine steps before dying from its poison.

The Níðhöggr (meaning "malice striker" in Old Norse, commonly anglicized as "Nidhogg") is a dragon in Norse mythology who would eat the roots of Yggdrasil, the world tree.

Tiamat is a primordial goddess of the ocean in Mesopotamian religion. The game Dungeons & Dragons has Tiamat as a chromatic dragon, the Queen of the Evil Dragons, and as such the opposing deity to Bahamut, who is a platinum dragon and the King of Benevolent Dragons.
