Final Fantasy Type-0 description

Drain Blade (ドレイン剣 or ドレインソード, Dorein Ken?), also known as Drain Sword, Draining Slash, Siphon Sword, or simply Drain, is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series. It is generally part of the Spellblade skillset and allows its user to deal damage and absorb that damage back as HP to the user.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy V[]

Drain is a level 4 Spellblade ability that costs 6 MP to use. It grants the user the ability to absorb HP from their target, but is inverted against the undead.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-[]

Drain Blade is a rank 2 command materia that costs 8 AP to use. It is obtained as a reward for completing Mission 3-3-4, found in Mission 4-2-6, and bought in the Wutai Secret Shop for 10,000 gil. Similar abilities include Power Drain, a rank 5 Command Materia that deals significantly more damage than Drain Blade while costing 16 AP to use, and Aerial Drain, a rank 8 command materia that enables Zack to avoid attacks on the ground by jumping into the air and performing the same functions as Drain Blade at the cost of 64 AP. Power Drain and Aerial Drain can be bought in the Wutai Secret Shop for 14,000 gil and 18,000 gil, respectively.

Final Fantasy XV[]

Noctis was seen using "Drain Blade" in gameplay demonstrations, but it does not feature in the final game.

Final Fantasy Type-0[]

Siphon Sword is an ability for Machina that requires 16 AP and is available after learning Cyclone Drive: Power ↑ II. Machina attacks enemies and drains their HP.

Siphon Sword: Power ↑ requires 6 AP and is available after learning Siphon Sword. It increases the power of Siphon Sword. Siphon Sword: AG ↓ requires 8 AP and is available after learning Siphon Sword: Power ↑. It reduces the AG cost of Siphon Sword.

Final Fantasy Dimensions[]

Draining Slash is an ability of the Magic Blade skillset usable by the Red Mage class. It costs 10 MP to use and inflicts physical damage while absorbing HP.

Drain HP from one enemy

Description

Drain Blade is an ability learned by Dark Knight Cecil at level 56 (5★) and Firion at level 69 (5★). It can also be equipped as a Materia by obtaining it as the Trust Master from Ronaldo. It costs 7 MP and deals 1 hit of hybrid damage with a modifier of 1.4x as well as 1 hit of hybrid damage with a modifier of 0.8x that drains 30% HP to one enemy.

Siphon Sword is an ability learned by Machina at level 58 (5★). It costs 56 MP and, when fully enhanced, deals 8 hits of physical damage with a modifier of 6.5x that drains 30% HP dealt as well as physical damage with a modifier of 1.5x that drains 30% MP dealt, reduces DEF/SPR by 75% for 2 turns, reduces DEF/SPR by 65% for 4 turns, and reduces DEF/SPR by 55% for 5 turns to one enemy. It uses the Absolute Mirror of Equity chaining family.

Similar abilities[]

The Blood Sword is a recurring sword in the series that absorbs HP from the target to the wielder when attacked with. Final Fantasy IX has Spellblade skills, but Drain cannot be used with it, perhaps because Steiner can use the Blood Sword for this purpose, though the damage does not scale and the weapon becomes obsolete when stronger weapons become available.

HP Absorb in Final Fantasy VII and the remake project lets the user gain HP when using their other abilities. There is a trick in the original Final Fantasy VII to link it with the Master Command to apply the effect to every command, even Attack.

In Final Fantasy VIII, junctioning Drains to ST-Atk-J allows the user to gain HP when they attack enemies with their weapon; this can make all other forms of healing obsolete.

Bravely series[]

Drain is a level 4 Sword Magic in Bravely Default. It imbues a weapon with an HP absorb effect for ten turns. Attacks with this weapon will absorb HP from the target. It costs 1 MP to use and can be bought in Starkfort for 1600 pg.
