Dragoon Quests (version 1.0)

The following is a list of Dragoon Quests from Final Fantasy XIV version 1.0.

Eye of the Dragon[]

Haurtefert of the Wood Wailers has prevailed upon you to assist his Ishgardian acquaintance, a knight named Ser Alberic, in a matter of some sensitivity. The details of your task will be revealed when you meet the man at the Gates of Judgement, in the central highlands of Coerthas.

Upon meeting Ser Alberic, you learn that an Ishgardian relic of immeasurable worth called the Eye has been stolen. The thief, a dragoon named Estinien, is believed to have concealed himself in the vicinity of Camp Nine Ivies, in the East Shroud. Your task is to cull the fell creatures said to inhabit the area, that the search effort might proceed unhampered.

In the midst of the culling, you find yourself confronted by a dragoon clad all in black. Just when it seemed that steel must clash, you become bathed in a mysterious light, an event which prompts your opponent's withdrawal. Who is the knight, and what is true nature of the light? Perhaps Ser Alberic can offer you some answers...

Ser Alberic relates to you the story of Haldrath, the first Azure Dragoon, who prized out the eye of the great wyrm Nidhogg a thousand years ago. With an unwavering sense of justice as his aegis, he prevailed over the power of the dragon and made it his own. Since that time, the Azure Dragoon has been the light of hope for Ishgard, the paragon of all dragoons. In order to wake the dragon within, Ser Alberic requires that you slay a monster called the bomb baron, who has grown agitated in the wake of a dragon attack. The creature can be found in Cassiopeia Hollow, east of Camp Bloodshore in eastern La Noscea.

Ser Alberic recounts to you events of fifteen years past, when the great wyrm Nidhogg last awakened. As the Azure Dragoon, he met the beast in battle. While he succeeded in repelling it, he sustained grievous injuries that led to the loss of his powers. It was then that Ser Alberic met the young Estinien, who had been orphaned in the destruction. Now, the dragons are stirring once more, roused by the disturbance surrounding the Eye. Yet another dragon attack has occurred near Millers' Glade in the eastern lowlands of Coerthas, and a young dragoon was slain. Drawn by the scent of death, a creature named Spitfire has taken to desecrating his final resting place. Ser Alberic bids you slay the creature, that your comrade might know true peace.

Ser Alberic has received a message from Estinien, the dragoon who made off with the Eye. The fugitive would trade words with you, and bids you meet him in the foothills southwest of Skyfire Locks. Take yourself to the rendezvous point, that you might learn of Estinien's intentions.

Estinien reveals that he took the Eye in order to divert Nidhogg's attention from Ishgard. The great wyrm stirs once more, and Estinien means to avenge his family and village by slaying it. Bidding you join your strength to his, he instructs you to acquire the drachen mail, a suit of armor forged of the blood of living dragons. The pieces have been sealed away at the following locations:
- The Aurum Vale, west of Camp Ever Lakes in the Coerthas central lowlands.
- The cave north of Camp Brittlebark in Mor Dhona.
- The U'Ghamaro Mines, northeast of Camp Iron Lake in upper La Noscea.
- The cave north of Camp Bluefog in northern Thanalan.

Ser Alberic confesses that he willingly relinquished the power of the dragon, fearing that it would corrupt him. Giving you stern warning never to forget whence comes your power, he bids you prove yourself worthy to champion the cause to which your lance is sworn. Take yourself to the western highlands of Coerthas, to an area south of Camp Riversmeet for which the camp is named. Once there, you are to seek out and slay the drake known as Stollenwurm.

An urgent message has arrived from Estinien. Nidhogg is on the move, and your fellow Azure Dragoon bids you meet him at Griffin Crossing for the encounter. The southbound highroad will take you to the rendezvous point.

In an unexpected turn of events, Estinien makes known the rancor he harbors towards Ser Alberic for failing to protect his village fifteen years ago. A fierce struggle breaks out between the two Azure Dragoons, with you emerging the victor. Desperate, Estinien gives in to the great wyrm's seduction, whereupon a being of darkness manifests and advances upon you. Moments before you are devoured, however, the being inexplicably takes fright and fades into nothingness. Shaken by the experience but otherwise unharmed, Ser Alberic bids you meet him back at the Gates of Judgement.

↑ The Japanese name uses Halone's god title. Halone, the Fury is known as Halone, the War God (戦神ハルオーネ, Ikusagami Haruōne?) in Japanese.
