Wristlet made from dragon bones.

Description

The Dragon Wrist is a late game arm guard in Final Fantasy IX that everyone besides Steiner can wear. It teaches Jelly, which immunizes against Petrify, and Lancer, which allows Freya to damage an enemy's HP and MP while replenishing her. The wrist is used for synthesis, gives a level up bonus to the wearer's Spirit, and halves Shadow damage.

Obtain[]

The Dragon Wrist is found in Terra by the pond Pathbythepond-ffix-terra in the secluded part entered from the stepping stones area.

The Dragon Wrist is bought for 4,800 gil in Bran Bal and Daguerreo (after visiting Bran Bal) and stolen from Nova Dragon.

Mechanics[]

The Dragon Wrist provides 29 physical Evasion and 12 Magic Evasion. The wrist gives a +1 bonus to the wearer's Spirit when they level up with it equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Spirit is a generally good stat to raise that determines the HP a character is revived at, the duration of expirable status effects, how often Regen and Poison tick, how frequently the character can enter Trance and how many turns they get while in Trance, among other things.

The wrist halves Shadow damage to the wearer. If the character wears another equipment piece that lets them absorb Shadow (Demon's Mail, Ninja Gear, Pumice Piece), they will absorb half damage. If they wear an equipment piece that weakens them to Shadow (Maiden Prayer), they will take ~75% damage from Shadow attacks.

Use[]

The Dragon Wrist is a good arm guard for the endgame, which also allows the wearer to resist Doomsday (though Shadow-absorbing gear would be better). The abilities from the Dragon Wrist are nothing special as the player has likely mastered them already.

The wrist's level up bonus is good if the player decides to level-grind, though level grinding and min-maxing are unnecessary in a normal playthrough even when preparing for superbosses. For pure stat-raising reasons, N-Kai Armlet and the Power Wrist (Strength +2) are the best options.

The Dragon Wrist is used in synthesis to make the Gauntlets after the shops in Black Mage Village gain new wares near the end of the game.

Though the guests from Tantalus can also equip the armlet, the player cannot see this in a normal playthrough.
