Field sprite.

The Dragon Pod, also known as the HiryuuPlant and Drgn Grass, is a boss in Final Fantasy V. It is the reason wind drakes have been dying out, as it attacks any drakes that investigate the plant. When the party seeks for herbs to heal a wind drake, they mistake the Dragon Pod for the herb and are attacked.

Stats

Battle

The Dragon Pod will only spawn Dragon Flowers, which will attack the party for a small damage and inflict Old, Confuse, Paralyze, Poison, Zombie or Blind, depending on the type of flower.

Strategy

The simplest strategy is to constantly cast the party's strongest multi-target spells or use a Monk's kick ability. As the Dragon Flowers have only 100 HP each, powerful spells and kick can wipe out entire groups of Dragon Flowers as they appear, on top of dealing damage to the Dragon Pod.

For an alternate strategy, as soon as the battle begins, the party should summon Golem. The party can now kill the Dragon Pod and the Dragon Flowers surrounding it easily, since they all use physical attacks. The party can first kill the flowers, then focus on the pod. One can cast Sleep on every flower, rendering the Dragon Pod defenseless.

As the Dragon Pod is not immune to the Blue Magic spell Death Claw, using this right before a multi-targeting attack will wipe out every enemy on-screen.

Dragon Pod is not immune to Instant Death and can potentially be killed by a character attacking with Death Sickle, which can be acquired from a Harvester in Bartz's World. If a Berserker is using the Death Sickle, the player should eliminate the Dragon Flowers as not to distract the Berserker's targeting.

A chemist can use the Mix command to use Antilixir on the Dragon Pod to immediately put it in critical HP and then kill it with a single attack.

The party can also use Iainuki, acquired at leveling a Samurai to level 5, to instantly dispatch the Dragon Pod.

A Geomancer can use the Gaia ability to potentially use Twister on the Dragon Pod, reducing it to single digit HP.
