Legendary spear made from a dragon king's hair. It is known as 'The divider of heaven'.
Description
The Dragon's Hair is Freya's ultimate spear in Final Fantasy IX, found in a mountain crack while riding Choco on the world map. It teaches the Dragon ability Dragon Breath, which lowers all enemies' HP by the amount the target has already been damaged.

The Dragon's Hair is found on the world map, on the Forgotten Continent near Oeilvert, by riding Choco up to a crack in the mountain and using a Dead Pepper on it. It is among the earlier ultimate weapons the player can acquire.
The player needs to progress Chocobo Hot and Cold to the point Dead Peppers become available after they gain access to the Blue Narciss, but before they enter Desert Palace. After being taken to the Forgotten Continent, the player must call for Choco from the local chocobo tracks with a Gysahl Green, and ride it to the mountain crack and use a Dead Pepper to uncover the treasure.
Mechanics[]
The Dragon's Hair's damage dealt with a normal Attack is determined as follows everywhere but within Ipsen's Castle:
- Base = 77 - Enemy's Defense
- Bonus = Strength + A random value 0 ... [(Level + Strength) / 8]
- Damage = Base * Bonus
The damage is then modified by variables like Freya's row position and equipped Killer abilities and MP Attack, as well as the enemy's Protect. Under Mini, her Bonus would be 1.
When in Ipsen's Castle, the stronger weapons do less damage than weaker weapons, and the Base part of the damage formula is altered to the minimum possible value.
Use[]
The Dragon's Hair is Freya's strongest weapon and available before many other spears. If obtained at the earliest, the Dragon's Hair will be Freya's best weapon for Oeilvert, Desert Palace, Esto Gaza, Mount Gulug, world map exploration on a flying transport, Terra, Pandemonium, and endgame exploration and the final dungeons. It is still worth swapping it out when other spears become available that teach Freya unique abilities.
Although Dragon's Hair has the highest attack power of Freya's spears, it could be argued that the Holy Lance (which can be stolen from the boss of Oelivert) is her most powerful weapon because it deals Holy damage with Attack, and so can be strengthened via Elem-Atk gear. Holy is generally a valuable damage type (except against Yan).
Dragon Breath can be a good ability against groups of Yans. If Steiner can do 9999 damage to a group with Climhazzard, or if Dagger can manage this with Atomos, Freya can repeat the feat and use Dragon Breath to dispose of the group. To stop the Yans from counter-attacking, the player can use Quina's Night, though Sleep wears off fast. Against single enemies, Freya's Dragon's Crest is better, but not yet available if the player procures the Dragon's Hair at the earliest.

Etymology[]
The name refers to a whisker of a Japanese dragon, whereas dragons in European folklore typically are not depicted with whiskers.
