Description
Doppelgänger is an ability for Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, granted by the 
Bird of Prey. Yuffie creates a life-sized marionette of herself for a duration, which copies her commands with a slight delay with no ATB or MP cost. Though the marionette does not deal Yuffie's exact damage/healing/stagger (only a portion of it; ~25%), it still greatly contributes to her damage-per-second potential. It is usable while airborne.
Doppelgänger is indicated by a glowing leaf symbol on Yuffie's health bar when active. It is a new ability to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Yuffie is shown to also be able to clone Johnny for humorous effect.
Obtained[]
The ability is provided by the bird of prey weapon, and learned permanently with use. Proficiency bonus is gained when finishing off enemies while the ability is active.
Use[]
Doppelgänger is a means of increasing Yuffie's damage output. When used, Yuffie's duplicate will copy her attacks (including ATB abilities, Throw, attacks and ninjutsu, items, and spells and enemy skills), and deal a portion of that damage by using it again, granting an effective increase in her damage output. Doppelgänger does not copy summoning, limit breaks, nor synergy abilities or skills.
Doppelgänger, once learned, should be used in nearly every battle, and becomes core to her moveset regardless of if she is being built to physical or magic damage.
Doppelgänger's ability to duplicate spells is especially potent in a number of combinations. When in a party with Aerith, by standing in her Arcane Ward, through Doppelgänger Yuffie can effectively cast a spell four times. Although the three following times will deal much less damage than the first (or much lower healing if duplicating a healing spell), it is still repeated use of a spell against an enemy. Doppelgänger's duplicating spell casts will also work when Yuffie is equipped with the 
Synergy Materia.
Yuffie can become a great healer when using mist potions with it active. However, this will not work in hard mode where consumable item use is disabled. Yuffie with Doppelgänger can be great when attempting to inflict ailments onto enemies as she effectively gets two tries to for it to take effect.
Using 
First Strike Materia or 
Chocoking's Cape, Yuffie can open the battle by using Doppelgänger. This is often what she should start a battle with.
Etymology and origin[]
In fiction and folklore, a doppelgänger is a paranormal double of a living person.
The visual aspect of using the ability originates from the Tanuki, trickster creatures in Japanese folklore whose s transformation powers came from the leaves on their heads. In Japanese pop culture, the leaf on a head is used to visually show something is spiritual or not the real subject.
