The character is doomed and will be KO'd when the count reaches 0. Remove with a Remedy. (Requires the proper license)
Description
Doom is a status in Final Fantasy XII that knocks out the affected once the gauge above them reaches 0. Enemies defeated via Doom forgo most spoils.
Mechanics[]
The counter starts from 10 and counts down around every ten seconds. The Doom status can be inflicted by the Time Magick Countdown, the Doom Mace and Yagyu Darkblade (Zodiac) weapons, and can also be used by enemies. When afflicted, the unit will be killed after 10 ticks, unless cured by a Remedy if the user has learned Remedy Lore 3 or by touching a Save Crystal.
Stop halts the countdown and Doom and Petrify cannot coexist on the same character; whichever status the character has first, they are immune to the other. The only exception is when using a Remedy with a Nihopalaoa, which inflicts both Doom and Petrify. The counter for Doom ticks slower than the counter for Petrify and does not hamper movement speed, but Petrify makes the affected resistant to physical damage.
Enemies defeated with Doom do not give EXP or LP, but do give CP. Like Stone and Poison, enemies defeated with Doom will not affect an enemy chain, though they will not drop loot in any case.
Abilities[]
| Spell | Countdown (Time Magicks) |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Doom Mace 15%, Time Bolts 25%, Yagyu Darkblade 20% (Zodiac) |
Countdown can be made to always succeed against targets that are susceptible when the caster equips the Indigo Pendant. However, the player is likely better off using Death or Warp to not need to wait out the timer.
The status can also be inflicted with the items that heal the status when Nihopalaoa is equipped.
When a party member has Doom, they can use Stamp to inflict it onto others at the same expiration point as when they used Stamp.
The ally-targeting gambit specifically for this status is called "Ally: status = Doom", while the self-targeting one is "Self: status = Doom" (though the ally-targeting gambit already includes self) and the enemy-targeting gambit is "Foe: status = Doom". In the original version, the gambits can be bought for 50 gil after the events at Draklor Laboratory. In the Zodiac versions, the gambits can be purchased for 70 gil after leaving Nalbina Dungeons.
