Final Fantasy Wiki

Doom is a negative status effect in Final Fantasy XIII inflicted on the party leader at the start of battles against Eidolons and when fighting the final boss, or after more than 20 minutes passes against several other tough enemies. When the timer expires, the party leader will be KO'd, resulting in a game over, as it cannot be healed or typically resisted. Doom cannot be applied to enemies.

Mechanics[]

Doom is represented by a timer set to 1800 deciseconds, or roughly three minutes. On slow battle speed, the timer is instead 3214 deciseconds. The final boss's Doom allows the player more time, with the timer starting at 4200 on normal speed and 7499 on slow speed. Additionally, the timer is twice as long on Easy Mode than on Normal Mode. Settings can be adjusted in the config.

Enemy abilities[]

Doom is an enemy-exclusive spell used by Eidolons when they first appear to fight their respective l'Cie (Stiria, Odin, Brynhildr, Bahamut, Alexander, and Hecatoncheir). It is cast immediately on the party leader at the start of the battle. Once under the Doom status, the l'Cie must defeat and tame the Eidolon before the count reaches 0, or the battle will be lost. The final boss will also cast Doom at the start of the final battle, with a longer than normal duration.

Barthandelus, Cid Raines, Dahaka, Geiseric, Attacus, Shaolong Gui, and Long Gui will cast Doom after 20 minutes pass in battle, while the final boss's first form and Vercingetorix cast it after 30 minutes pass. For these instances, there is no casting animation.

Resistance[]

The player cannot resist Doom with status-resistance, but aside from Eidolons' and the final boss's second form, who cast Doom at the start of battle, the enemy's Doom can be avoided if the player has an Eidolon out, and the summoner dies just as the enemy is about to cast it; the Eidolon will draw the attack and revive the player character before being dismissed.

Removal[]

Doom cannot be removed, but summoning an Eidolon halts the timer for the summoning's duration.
