Donuhanu is a character in Final Fantasy XIV. He is the owner of Fish Fancies Donuhanu. Donuhanu is the Wachumeqimeqi Delivery client for Fisher in the Dawntrail expansion.

History[]

Donuhanu, struggling with the decline of his eccentric fish emporium, found renewed hope when a young Whalaqee named Pashenine arrived seeking a powerful fish. Pashenine needed this fish to complete a vital rite of passage, which involved defeating a giant toad using magical techniques learned from sea creatures. Donuhanu, intrigued by the challenge and sensing a kindred spirit, eagerly agreed to help. The Warrior of Light, now roped into the endeavor, followed along as Donuhanu began to brainstorm the perfect fish for the job. Together, they set off on a mission to find the strong catch that could save both Pashenine's trial and Donuhanu's floundering shop.[1]

Donuhanu's excitement grew as he realized Pashenine needed a sharp fish, leading him to suggest the king puffer. With the Warrior of Light's help, they quickly gathered the fish. Donuhanu watched in awe as Pashenine consumed the puffers entirely, marveling at the young mage's dedication. Inspired by the encounter, Donuhanu offered his kitchen and vowed to help Pashenine on his magical journey, eager to strengthen their partnership.[2]

Pashenine returned, announcing his mastery over the king puffer's magic, its sharp spines now deadly enough for his rite of passage. His next challenge involved a gargantuan tortoise, and he sought Donuhanu's advice on finding a fish strong enough to combat it. Donuhanu recommended the Yok Huy pleco, whose scales were as tough as armor. After the Warrior of Light caught the pleco, Pashenine marveled at its potential beyond battle, imagining ways it could help his community.[3] When Donuhanu introduced the Qor pirarucu as a match for the crocodile in his trial, Pashenine eagerly accepted. Once the Warrior of Light brought back the massive fish, he prepared it with a practiced hand, ready to consume its energies to further strengthen himself for the challenges ahead.[4]

Having just digested his latest meal of fish, Pashenine knew the final test of his rite of passage awaited him. Though he would face it alone, he wished for Donuhanu and the Warrior of Light to witness his accomplishment. Pashenine's journey would take him to Uyuyub', where he planned to demonstrate the power of the phantasmic fish he had mastered. While Donuhanu and the Warrior of Light arrived early, it wasn't long before Pashenine appeared, proudly bearing the corpses of gargantuan beasts, all felled by his summoned fish. Donuhanu was ready to celebrate, but Pashenine revealed his hardest task yet: to defeat a carnivorous tree, a foe deadlier than any he had faced. His newfound confidence faltered at the prospect, but Donuhanu, unwavering, believed that every challenge had a corresponding fish. Donuhanu, driven by a desire to help Pashenine, impulsively set off to catch a Cenote Shark for the Whalaqee's final trial. Injuring himself in the process, he left Pashenine and the Warrior of Light to handle the deadly cenote shark, which the Warrior expertly caught. Grateful but puzzled by Donuhanu's reckless support, Pashenine learned that the fishmonger's passion for rare and misunderstood fish mirrored his own struggles to prove his worth. With the cenote shark in hand and his confidence renewed, Pashenine was now fully prepared for the final trial, backed by Donuhanu's unwavering belief in him.[5]

However Pashenine failed to defeat the tree even using the shark. Donuhanu quickly turned the conversation to the next plan: catching the fabled raging Hanuhead to lift Pashenine's spirits. Trusting the Warrior of Light to help, he sent them to Shaaloani to catch the fish. When the Hanuheads arrived, Donuhanu marveled at their round shape, finding humor in their resemblance to Hanuhanu people. Watching Pashenine expertly prepare the fish, Donuhanu enjoyed the meal and was already deep in thought about the next fish they'd need for Pashenine's final challenge.[6]

Donuhanu, deeply focused, knew that Pashenine needed a fish unlike any they had used before—a fish with lightning-infused strength. Sending the Warrior of Light to seek out the elusive fulmisturgeon, he eagerly awaited the fish's arrival. Once delivered, Donuhanu marveled at the fish's unique qualities, calling it “finspirational.” He trusted that Pashenine's newfound strength, bolstered by the fulmisturgeon, would lead him to victory. As Pashenine faced the carnivorous tree, Donuhanu watched with pride as his young friend triumphed in the shocking display of fish combat.[7]

After Pashenine's victory, Donuhanu couldn't help but reflect on how much they had achieved together. The once small and peculiar Fish Fancies Donuhanu had grown into a place where even the oddest of fish had value. Thanks to Pashenine's influence, the market now welcomed strange and exotic aquatic creatures, bringing Donuhanu newfound success. He knew that the shop's future was bright, and that they had both gained not only success but also lifelong friendship. He encouraged Pashenine to hold his head high, knowing he would always be welcome in Tuliyollal, with Donuhanu's gratitude everlasting.[7]
