Unleash an unrelenting stream of acrobatic attacks. Significantly increases stagger.
Description
Dolphin Flurry is Tifa Lockhart's level 2 limit break in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It is a physical attack that hits an enemy for significant damage over several attacks, and significantly increases an enemy's stagger gauge. As a limit break, it requires no ATB to use.
Dolphin Flurry's animation comprises a combo of several attacks. Tifa opens by slamming on the ground and kicking overhead. She continues by leaping to the air and spinning, creating a wave in the air while dealing several hits of damage. She concludes with an uppercut punch from which a dolphin appears, dealing tremendous damage.
The ability is Tifa's level 2 limit break, above Somersault at limit level 1. When limit level 3 is unlocked via folio, Tifa unlocks Meteor Strikes, another physical attack dealing more damage and over a wider area.
Dolphin Flurry returns from Final Fantasy VII Remake, which in turn returns from Final Fantasy VII, where Dolphin Blow was one of Tifa's level 3 limit breaks as second in her combo.
Obtained[]
Dolphin Flurry is available to Cloud from the start. However, as a level 2 limit break, it requires either a synergy ability or an accessory to enable it in battle. If Expeditionary Medal or
Enhanced Expeditionary Medal is equipped on Tifa, she will start at a limit level where she can use Dolphin Flurry.
Mechanics[]
Dolphin Flurry comprises 14 hits, each with different effects. The first three hits, and the final hit, cause launch. The fourth to twelfth hit each have a knockdown effect. The final fourteenth hit deals most damage and increases the stagger gauge.
Use[]
Dolphin Flurry deals tremendous damage to one target, and also to nearby enemies if they are clustered together with the target. As a physical attack, its damage is based on Tifa's Attack Power, which is normally her strongest stat and main source of damage.
When using a limit break, no ATB charge is expended, and Tifa is invulnerable during its animation. There is no penalty to using it except that some enemies can dodge it, become resistant to physical damage, or become entirely immune through Shield.
The ability can be used in a variety of ways: dealing more damage to staggered enemies, finishing off bosses, or simply using it to temporarily become immune. Against bosses who take little damage outside of stagger, it is best to wait. Against bosses who have a devastating attack ready, using it to grant temporary invulnerability can avoid it, and its longer animation time will help.
A number of accessories can help Tifa use Dolphin Flurry more often. Additionally, Limit Siphon Materia can be used to fill Tifa's limit gauge when needed. As Tifa often is used primarily as a source of damage output, this can be ideal for her as effectively a free ability to use whenever her limit gauge is filled.
When Tifa uses synergy abilities or accessories to boost her limit level, the only reason to use Somersault over Dolphin Flurry is because of its shorter animation time. When Meteor Strikes is available, there is no reason for her to use Dolphin Flurry over Meteor Strikes.
