WHM using Divine Caress from FFXIV

Divine Caress in Final Fantasy XIV.

Divine Caress (女神の愛撫, Megami no Aibu?, lit. Goddess Caress or ディヴァインカレス, Divain Karesu?) is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series. It is often a White Mage ability that allows the user to provide some form of support to their allies.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy XI[]

Divine Caress is a White Mage ability learned at level 83. When under the effects of Divine Caress, the user's next "-na" spell used to remove a status effect will cause the target to gain increased resistance to that respective debuff for 60 seconds. The duration of the resistance increase can be extended if the player has put in several job points into the White Mage's "Divine Caress Effect" category. The effects are not compatible with Erase and Esuna. Divine Caress's effect on the user will last for 1 minute, or until the next appropriate spell cast. It has recast time of 1:00.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

Divine Caress is a White Mage ability learned at level 100, serving as an extension of the job's Temperance Temperance ability. When Temperance is used, its will grant the effect of Divine Grace to the user, causing the hotkey of the former to automatically change to Divine Caress for a period of 30 seconds.

When Divine Caress is performed, it will create a barrier around the user and all nearby party members that will absorb damage that is the equivalent of a 400 potency heal for 10 seconds. The targets will then gain the additional effect of Divine Aura after the previous buff expires, which is a healing over time effect with a 200 cure potency for a duration of 15 seconds.

Behind the scenes[]

In the original Japanese language version of Final Fantasy XI, Divine Caress is known as Goddess Caress (女神の愛撫, Megami no Aibu?). Due to Final Fantasy XIV often reusing the English names for previous job abilities that appeared in Final Fantasy XI, the ability's appearance in the former uses the Japanese katakana name of Divine Caress (ディヴァインカレス, Divain Karesu?).
