Remove beneficial status effects from all foes in range.

Description

Dispelga is a White Magicks spell in Final Fantasy XII, both in the original PlayStation 2 version and the Zodiac re-releases. It is a multi-target status enhancement removal spell that also removes Slow and Stop. It is an upgrade over the single-target Dispel.

Obtained[]

Dispelga's license costs 90 License Points in the Zodiac versions, where the spell is found in Feywood's White Magick's Embrace. The treasure for it spawns in the top right side of the area, next to a large pillar or piece of ancient ruin.

In the original version, Dispelga's license costs 50 LP and the spell is bought for 8200 gil from Balfonheim Port.

In the Zodiac versions, Dispelga can be used by the job classes White Mage and Monk, though the latter needs the license for Famfrit to reach it on their board.

Mechanics[]

Dispelga removes Lure, Reflect, Protect, Shell, Haste, Slow, Stop, Bravery, Faith, Berserk, Regen, Float, Invisible, and Libra.

It does not remove enemies' Invisible, because invisible foes cannot be targeted (the player can reflect magick off their party to reveal them, however), nor Reverse, which is considered a status ailment rather than an enhancement. Though other games in the Final Fantasy series consider Berserk a negative status, Berserk is considered a positive status in Final Fantasy XII and so it is removed with Dispelga rather than with Esuna. Dispelga does not remove permanent buffs, such as Reflect from a character wearing a Mirror Mail.

Dispelga costs 32 MP in the Zodiac versions and 36 MP in the original version to cast without Channeling licenses.

Use[]

Dispelga is a status enhancement removal spell the player can easily set up via the gambit system (such as with Foe: 3+ foes present→Dispelga). However, there is no way to automate it to only activate when multiple foes all have status enhancements. The single-target Dispel is easier to set in a gambit and still be useful, whereas Dispelga may be better for manual use.

It could be used to heal the player's own party of Stop in one go, as Esunaga does not work on it and Chronos Tears and Remedies are single-target. However, one party member would need to be immune to Stop to be able to do it, and using it would also lift all buffs the player placed intentionally.

Dispelga can be of use in the Trial Mode Stage 72 against Diabolos, Avenger, and Overlord.
