Final Fantasy Wiki

Dispel is a negative status effect in Final Fantasy XIII that removes statuses already in place. The basic dispelling effect is to remove the most recently acquired status enhancement from the target, but the Dispelga Technique instead removes almost all statuses, both negative and positive, from both enemies and allies, leveling the playing field.

In most games in the series, Dispel is not classified as a status effect, just a removal method, but in the Final Fantasy XIII series enemies can be immune to it the same way they can resist other status ailments.

The player's main means of using a dispelling effect is with the Saboteur's Dispel spell, which removes the target's most recently acquired status enhancements (unless the enemy is immune to Dispel) while also doing some non-elemental magical damage. Fang and Vanille learn it the earliest.

Resistance[]

The player cannot resist Dispel, not even with Veil status, which is instead removed when hit with Dispel. Enemies, however, can be immune.

Enemies[]

Unlike the other status effects, Dispel does not have varying degrees of resistance; an enemy can only be immune (0%) or susceptible (100%).

Enemies fought when the player lacks access to the Dispel spell still programmed resistances to the status even if the player cannot use the status against them in a normal playthrough.
