The character's body festers with disease, preventing the healing of wounds. Remove with a Serum/Vaccine.
Description (Zodiac/original)
Disease is a status in Final Fantasy XII that turns a unit's current HP into their new maximum HP, which is updated whenever receiving damage, eventually reducing to a minimum of 1/1, a state the player quickly finds themselves in if the party also gets Poison and/or Sap. In such a state, a unit is not regarded as HP Critical, and thus prevents any conditional passives dependent on HP lower thresholds from activating, such as Last Stand. Disease prevents enemies from entering their toughened HP Critical battle phases as well. Units will retain their current HP when cured of Disease; a KO'd character with the Disease status will have 1/1 HP when revived. Libra does not show the actual current maximum HP when the enemy has Disease.
Disease is one of the few statuses that does not expire, remaining in place until cured. Disease is opposed to Bubble, both unable to coexist on the same target. In the original PS2 version, the player had meager means of inflicting Disease on enemies, but the Zodiac versions add an item and a weapon that have it as an effect.

The player can also inflict Disease with items that usually heal it when they have the Nihopalaoa equipped. When a party member has Disease, they can use Stamp to inflict it onto others.
The ally-targeting gambit specifically for this status is called "Ally: status = Disease", while the self-targeting gambit is "Self: status = Disease", and the enemy-targeting gambit is "Foe: status = Disease". In the original version, these gambits can be bought for 50 gil after the events at Draklor Laboratory. In the Zodiac versions, the gambits can be purchased for 70 gil after leaving Nalbina Dungeons.

Use[]
In the Zodiac versions, Disease is especially useful for the 100th stage of the Trial Mode, as most of the enemies in this stage can heal with Elixirs. The Meteorite (B) item, the Stamp Technick, or the mace Bonebreaker must be used if Nihopalaoa is to be eschewed.
