Etymology[]

Possibly taken from the English-language idiom "to march to a different beat" (cf. "to march to the beat of one's own drum"), meaning to follow one's own intuition with little regard for what others in a group may be doing in the same time and space. The phrase itself can be interpreted as the quality of having independence of thought or action, or more rarely the tendency toward stubbornness, all of which are in line with Zell's character.
