Desperado is a Limit Break for Laguna in Final Fantasy VIII that deals physical damage to all enemies depending on his Strength stat. Desperado is his only Limit Break; Limit Breaks are randomly available when Laguna is on low health or under Aura.

When he uses Desperado, Laguna pulls the pin of a grenade, tosses it amid his opponents, and shoots a grappling hook above and, as he swings on his grapple, fires multiple rounds with his machine gun down upon his enemies. He jumps off the rope and lands as the grenade explodes.

Mechanics[]

Desperado deals non-elemental physical damage to all enemies as per the following formula:[1]

Critical Determination

Where "Luck" is Laguna's Luck stat. If the attack criticals, it will deal double damage.

Base Damage Calculation

Where "Strength" is Laguna's Strength stat and "Vitality" is the target's Vitality stat. For comparison, the Power value of a normal attack is 20 against Desperado's 140, meaning using Desperado is 6x the power of using Attack.

If the target has Protect, damage is halved.

Limit Breaks never miss and are unaffected by Elem-Atk junctions.

Laguna "Desperado" Limit Break from FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered

Desperado is Laguna's Limit Break. It is very strong and is best used against groups of enemies. As a physical ability, Desperado can critical. Laguna always inherits Squall's junctions for his dreams, and both are better geared toward high Strength stat.

There are no unique bosses fought as Laguna; the two boss-like encounters being the groups of Esthar soldiers atop the Centra Excavation Site, and the Ruby Dragon in the Vienne Mountains. All battles in Laguna scenarios should be easily won without special attacks, but Desperado makes defeating enemies faster for its strength and ability to take all enemies out at once.

Etymology[]

Desperado is a bold or desperate outlaw, especially of the American frontier.
