Gravity-based attack. HP at 3/4

Description

Demi is an attack magic spell in Final Fantasy VII. It is granted by the Gravity Materia at level one and also used via the Graviball item, and is the basic Gravity-elemental spell below Demi2 and Demi3. It will reduce an enemy's current HP by 25%.

Barret can use this spell in the 1996 demo release for the cost of only 5 MP. In this version, its effect is the same as the effect of Demi2 in the final game.

Demi deals fractional damage, and reduces the target's current HP by 25%, provided they have no resistance or immunity to the Gravity element.

Use[]

Demi can be used by characters with the Gravity Materia at level 1. It will reduce an enemy's HP by 25%, meaning its damage is unaffected by the user's Magic stat and is based entirely on the enemy's current HP and their resistance to Gravity damage. It has a high MP cost at 14, and cannot be reflected.

The Demi spell is a niche spell because its 25% damage in an enemy's HP is meager against smaller enemies, who can be easily killed by other attacks, while being ineffective against many large enemies that are immune to Gravity. This makes it best against medium enemies, and in rare circumstances, considering its high MP cost.

The most notable use case of the spell is against Emerald Weapon. As Emerald Weapon does not have immunity to Gravity, Demi is the most economical attack against it, and will consistently deal 9999 damage.

Demi can be useful when pairing the Gravity Materia with Support Materia. The All Materia allows it to reduce the HP of multiple enemies, opening them up for a group attack that can help wipe an enemy faster. When paired with Added Cut, the character that uses the spell will make an attack immediately after. As the spell is not dependent on the user's Magic stat, this makes it a good choice for party member built towards physical damage, such as Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and Cid.

Demi can be cast by Deenglow.
