Demi-Phoenix is a Summoner pet in Final Fantasy XIV. It is called by the
Firebird Trance ability.
Obtained[]
Demi-Phoenix is obtained learning the Enhanced Firebird Trance trait at level 80. This trait will cause Firebird Trance to summon Demi-Phoenix on use, in addition to its prior effects. Upon using Firebird Trance, Demi-Phoenix will appear at the Summoner's side, temporarily replaced the Summoner's Egi. Once this trait is acquired, Firebird Trance can only be used while the Summoner has an Egi active.
Use[]
Demi-Phoenix differs from the Summoner's usual Egi summons. It has a limited 20s duration, and during this time it can not be commanded using the usual pet commands.
Upon summoning Demi-Phoenix it will automatically use Everlasting Flight, providing a healing over time (HoT) effect to nearby party members. As with other supportive area of effect (AoE) abilities, Everlasting Flight's 15y radius is significantly shorter than the 25y max range of ranged disciplines. As such these disciplines, including the Summoner themselves, should rarely find themselves actually fighting at full range—all party members should try to remain within 15y to maximize the effectiveness of these abilities.
Demi-Phoenix does not have an auto-attack. Instead anytime the Summoner casts a spell on an enemy, Demi-Phoenix will use Scarlet Flame on the same target. This provides it with steady damage output similar to an auto-attack, and it is significantly stronger than Egi auto-attacks, but its activation is dependent on the Summoner's inputs. Downtime from the Summoner will in turn result in downtime from Demi-Phoenix.
During Demi-Phoenix's 20s duration it can execute up to 8 Scarlet Flames. In order to get 8 Scarlet Flames, the Summoner must weave the off-global cooldown (oGCD) Firebird Trance in between an instant cast global cooldown (GCD) spell, such as Ruin IV. If the Summoner does not weave Firebird Trance, they risk losing the eighth Scarlet Flame.
Using Enkindle Phoenix orders Demi-Phoenix to execute Revelation, dealing massive damage to a single target and splash damage to nearby enemies. While Revelation suffers from a 50% potency dropoff after the first hit, its naturally high potency means it is still one of the most potent AoE actions in the Summoner's arsenal. This makes it a versatile option the Summoner will want to use regardless how many enemies they are facing. With its 10s recast, Summoners should be able to get two Revelations out of Demi-Phoenix's duration.
Once Demi-Phoenix's 20s duration is up it will despawn, and the Egi it replaced will reappear in the same location it was in when Demi-Phoenix appeared.
The normal Egi command abilities, Egi Assault,
Egi Assault II,
Enkindle, and
Aetherpact, will not work with Demi-Phoenix, and Summoners should try to time their rotations such that they do not become available while Demi-Phoenix is active. In addition, the Egi actions used by these commands do not execute immediately, and risk being lost if Demi-Phoenix is summoned before they execute. Demi-Phoenix's actions also experience a delay and may be lost if it despawns before they execute.
Actions[]
Without the Summoner's input, Demi-Phoenix will not use actions, aside from Everlasting Flight when it is initially summoned. In order for Demi-Phoenix to use its actions, the Summoner must cast spells or command it to do so with Enkindle Phoenix.

Etymology[]
Demi is a prefix meaning "half", from the Latin dīmidium meaning "divided in half".
phoenix or phenix (Greek: φοῖνιξ phoinix; Latin: phoenix, phœnix, fenix) is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. According to some sources, the phoenix dies in a show of flames and combustion, although there are other sources that claim that the legendary bird dies and simply decomposes before being born again. According to some texts, the phoenix could live over 1,400 years before rebirth.
