Defender X is a boss from Final Fantasy X fought near the bridge between the Calm Lands and Mt. Gagazet. It is called into battle by two Guado guards who block the path under Seymour's orders.

Battle[]

Defender X is a heavily armored mech construct that can do lot of damage with normal attacks. Its special attack, Haymaker, can potentially KO a character outright, and is used after three physical attacks. Blast Punch halves one party member's HP and inflicts Delay, and is used when Provoked. It is also used as a counter attack whenever it is targeted with Dark Buster, two physical attacks, or three magical attacks.

If Defender X is targeted five times before it can act, it will counter with Slowga. This takes priority over Blast Punch, which will be used after the next appropriate action. Once its HP drops past 16,000, if afflicted with Armor Break, it has a 50% chance to cast Mighty Guard on itself before its turn. It will not use Mighty Guard if it already has Protect, Shell, or Provoke.

In the original version, Defender X drops weapons with Strength +3% and Magic +3% instead of Distill Power.

Strategy[]

A good way to start off the battle is to use Auron's Armor Break and Wakka's Dark Attack to blind it. If Lulu has learned any level three spells, she can be used to great effect, and the damage she can do will be improved if Auron wipes out Defender X's Magic Defense with Mental Break.

An easy way of defeating Defender X is to have Tidus provoke it. This way the boss will only use Blast Punch on that character, and since the attack only halves the current HP, the character will not risk being KO'd. This method also applies to the Defender Z enemies found in Zanarkand and the Omega Ruins.

Entering the fight with maxed Overdrive gauges for Yuna's aeons gives the player an advantage. Aeons should use their Overdrives right away when summoned, as the Defender X may kill them in one hit.
