Defender is a type of ancient machina enemy that appears in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. They are golems powered by pyreflies with high Strength and Defense, average Magic Defense, and no magic ability. When dealing with Defenders, it is recommended to have Protect, Haste, Armor Break, and in some cases, Mental Break. Power Break will almost never work.
All enemies in the genus have the Haymaker ability. In Final Fantasy X-2, it takes 14 kills to Oversoul a Defender.
