Final Fantasy Wiki

Defaith is an enemy-exclusive negative status effect in Final Fantasy XIII that lowers the power of magic abilities by 90%, affecting abilities such as a Commando's Ruin, Ravager's and Medic's spells, and even Synergists' buffs as they will expire faster when cast under the effects of Defaith, as well as Hope's and Vanille's full ATB skills.

Defaith is mutually exclusive with Faith or Faithra. Its magic counterpart is Debrave.

Defaith is best healed if the player is struck with it as its effect is so major, but the player could wait it out and use only physical attacks for its duration, though the abilities that inflict Defaith tend to also give Debrave.

Defaith returns in the sequels to Final Fantasy XIII, but with a weaker effect.
