Final Fantasy Wiki

Death is a status in Final Fantasy X-2. It is the basic "defeat" status, which counts toward Game Over if all of the player's active party members are defeated. The other defeat status is Petrification and sometimes Eject. A unit in battle falls to Death status when their HP is reduced to 0, either by losing too much HP, or by being inflicted by an instant death ability. Battle units can protect against the latter; for the player, this means that there are auto-abilities and equipment that protect against instant death abilities.

Enemies[]

The Samurai's Zantetsu is considered a separate immunity from normal instant death, and may work on enemies that are otherwise immune to instant death.

Bosses are immune to instant death, though some may be susceptible to Zantetsu (though have high resistance against it).

Ghost- and machina-type enemies are immune to normal instant death but not against Zantetsu.

The following normal enemies are immune to instant death attacks. Often enemies resist Zantetsu but are not outright immune. Critical Bug is something of an anomaly in not resisting instant death, but resisting Zantetsu (though Zantetsu may still rarely work against it).

  1. Cactuar has a very high resistance to both Death and Zantetsu, making it effectively immune.
